I have a Nether Portal situated at (-165, 249) which takes me to point (-21,44) in the Nether.

I made a new Nether Portal situated at (296,248). Upon entering the portal it takes me to the same location of (-21,44) in the Nether. If I re-enter the same portal a second later it takes me back to my original location of (-165,249).

I am in the habit of labelling one-way portals with signs, but it would be really awesome if the game could detect whether a portal in the overworld is a "Master" portal for that1024x1024 area, or if it is a one way portal, and give some visual indication of the difference, for example, master portals could be purple, and one-way portals could be red, or maybe master portal animation could swirl clockwise and one-way portal animation could swirl counter-clockwise
</comment>
                            <comment id="16123" author="meta" created="Wed, 31 Oct 2012 23:39:17 +0100"  >
I got the same "problem" (well we not like it somehow) on a server of mine and we already built and destroyed many portals.

In the beginning the problem was that if you went to the nether and went back you spawned somewhere else in the overworld. After creating and destroying portals that portal eventually linked to another nether portal which is connected to an overworld portal.

For clarity: Overworld-portal B links to nether-portal A which links to overworld-portal A which links back to nether-portal A
</comment>

Destroy the old one and make one at -21, 31 and one at 37, 31. If you can, put them at the same height as the ones in the Overworld. They should now work fine.

It's not a bug, it's how portals work. They are not actually linked together, they simply check in a certain area where they should spawn you if there's a portal already nearby.
</comment>
                            <comment id="13415" author="detachablemonkey" created="Thu, 25 Oct 2012 20:26:23 +0200"  >
If Nether Portals in the overworld are located within 1,024 blocks of each other, they should link to the same portal within the Nether. I believe this is by design. Take a look at the "Implications" section of the Minecraft Wiki for a bit more info. http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Nether_Portal
</comment>
