[MC-3351] Not in GZIP format

                <project id="10400" key="MC">Minecraft: Java Edition</project>

I own a server, and we recently updated to 1.4.4
I had an old survival map that was generated in 1.3.2 and worked fine on the server until 1.4.4

It says that it failed to load my player data, which meant my whole inventory was cleared.
The console produces this:

java.util.zip.ZipException: Not in GZIP format
at.java.util.zip.GZIPInputStream.readHeader
and so on.
However, these files were recovered from deletion a few hours ago with recuva,
but that didn't produce any problems with the actual player .dat files
I need help because I am almost dead without a sword and I don't want to go in to creative(i love survival too much) and I am screwed if something doesn't happen.
