[MC-2954] Mob spawing in "safe zone"

                <project id="10400" key="MC">Minecraft: Java Edition</project>

While playing on my singleplayer map, I noticed that hostile mobs were spawing inside my rail tunnels. There is no light level south of 10, it is completly enclosed, yet they still spawn. I also notice as I was expanding my rail system that hostle mobs were safe during the daytime if they were standing on the tracks that I laid. I noticed this midday in a desert.

Here is the video for the sake of completeness: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzNY3ZgFD9g
</comment>

And Yyes the mobs do go hostile in the sun if I cross their sight. Usually I'm approaching from the side of the track, as soon as they notice me they move off of the track and begin to burn. Fortunatly, when I updated to day the bug seems to have disappeared. So I think that the issue was resolved in some of the updates.
</comment>

If there is are dark areas outside of your railway tunnel it's possible (with the chance getting very low very fast, depending on the distance) that a mob spawns inside your tunnel. I think this is what happens in you case. However, this does not explain why the mobs don't burn in the sun while standing on the rails. (Do they go hostile?)
</comment>
                            <comment id="21424" author="smokedhavoc" created="Wed, 14 Nov 2012 14:55:21 +0100"  >
they can't the railway is sealed, as far as for them walking in. Don't think that its a spawner because its creepers, zombies and skeletons. not to mention them just sitting on an open (uncomplete, I haven't built the "railway tunnel" yet) portion of track in the open desert during the day and nothing is happening to them. But as soon as they move off the tracks the sun begins to affect them normally.
</comment>
