[MC-268] "Jump Boost" does not reduce fall damage

                <project id="10400" key="MC">Minecraft: Java Edition</project>

Beacons providing the "Bunny Hop" buff, Tier I or II, do not reduce fall damage at all. This means that at Bunny Hop I, jumping down two blocks causes fall damage and hit stun, and at Bunny Hop II, jumping down only one block causes fall damage and hit stun. Surely this wouldn't be intended?

                            <comment id="15588" author="dell_the_engie" created="Tue, 30 Oct 2012 21:27:51 +0100"  >
@Credo, check the activity stream for this issue, and you'll see that Dinnerbone closed this for the reason "Works As Intended". Understandably confusing, though. In any case, you bring up exactly the two points I'm trying to emphasize-- first, that if this really does work as intended, then someone at Mojang thinks that adding to jump height without also modifying fall damage calculations makes perfect sense (it doesn't); and second, how can someone say that this isn't part of a bug when many people are complaining of faulty and erratic fall damage under all sorts of circumstances?

What it seems to me is that we have a little bit of both issues going on-- someone neglected to recalculate fall damage when jump height is increased (or somehow thought that that was a good idea), and fall damage is acting wonky in general.
</comment>
                            <comment id="15532" author="credomane" created="Tue, 30 Oct 2012 19:44:51 +0100"  >
Well Nathan Workman (@mrtachyon) isn't Nathan Adams (@dinnerbone). Mojang employees also get the [Mojang] tag before their name.

I find Bunny Hop to be very helpful for getting around. Climbing mountains, escaping ravines and just getting around "bumpy" areas. It does suck that Bunny Hoping in place can cause fall damage. Would make sense logically that if you can jump up 8 blocks your legs would be capable of adsorbing an 8 block fall. They haven't done that and the best we can do is offer it as a suggestion.
</comment>
                            <comment id="14533" author="dell_the_engie" created="Sat, 27 Oct 2012 23:51:11 +0200"  >
Surprised to see Dinnerbone says that this works as is intended, especially considering the fact that fall damage in general is faulty in 1.4. Disappointing as well, makes Bunny Hop much more limited.
</comment>
                            <comment id="12754" author="dell_the_engie" created="Thu, 25 Oct 2012 01:44:55 +0200"  >
Right, at three blocks distance, you do take fall damage, I'm just surprised that jump height would be increased without also increasing distance for fall damage. If it were intended, then this greatly limits Bunny Hop's utility, and even makes it an ability to use with some caution.
</comment>
                            <comment id="12722" author="mrtachyon" created="Thu, 25 Oct 2012 01:18:35 +0200"  >
Yes this is intended it is not a bug. When you fall three blocks you will take fall damage.
</comment>
