[MC-2257] Minecraft VERY slow to join/update a server, takes LONG time to login (30 seconds/ 1 min)

                <project id="10400" key="MC">Minecraft: Java Edition</project>

Put the summary of the bug you're having here

I really hope that you will fix this. It is extremly annoying, and it is ruining the experience of Minecraft.

When you go to the multiplayer, and your server list pops up, then it will take around 30-40 seconds before it updates any servers, and show the descibtion of the server, Players/ip/desc.
That is the first problem.
Second of all, that might be the WORST problem is, when you join ANY server, it takes around 30-40 seconds to join it. Minecraft freezes totally, but is still responding. then suddenly after the long wait it goes over to "Loggin in..." Loading world", and it finally joins. I know other people have had this issue before. It might not sound very annoying, but it is really annoying. I have tried EVERYTHING.... Delete minecraft, re-install java, checked millions of options.... ETC. This bug happend was no problem in 1.3.2, but suddenly in 1.3.2 it happend, just a few days before 1.4.2, and now it is in 1.4.2. I thought it would be fixed due to the 1.4.2 update. But i was unfortunatly wrong. ;(!!!!

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open multiplayer:
2. takes LONG time to load the list, to see if the servers are online, etc.
3. Joins server
4. Takes along time to join any server.
5. after wait it goes back to: Logging in... / Loading world.
6. Joined, after 1 minute.
7.Rages

Then, out of nowhere, it started happening again, /even connecting to localhost/. It's got nothing to do with the internet connection or the machine, but something that screwed up in the game between 1.2.5 and now. It's pretty random, but when it happens, the server ping is added to exactly 15000. I never experienced this on 1.2.5, ever, and i used it for way longer than 1.3.x and 1.4.x combined. I remember this started on one of the first 1.3 snapshots, but i'm not sure which. Could be an issue in Java 7 too, i remember that i made a special launcher that ran the game with Java6 to fix the sound issues of 1.3, i'll do some testing with it and report back.
—
Nope. Java6 does not affect the bug, even though the entire game takes much longer to load.
This website is designed to report bugs, not to fix them. If you're looking for a quick fix I would recommend the MC forums instead of here. As for myself, I have no idea what is causing this issue.
</comment>

@Jesper: It has to be something environmental. I run Minecraft from no less than 3 locations, on 4+ machines, and none of them show the issue. Another thing to try is to have a friend move their pc to your house and try with that. If they have no issues, then it is something on your PC, in which case its a support issue, not a bug.
</comment>

Connection Speed: 20 Mbit/s
ICMP Ping: 32 ms
HTTP Ping: 56ms

Server Power: 8 Core 4.5 GHz 32 GB RAM
Client Power: 4 Core 2.5 GHz 4GB RAM
Server System: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS OpenJDK & Sun Java, happens with both.

Happens also when they are in the same network (1GB/s, 0.01 ms ICMP Latency, Minecraft around 6-10 seconds for the first time).

Open Multiplayer, wait 20 seconds and then i see a ping ~20000ms
Click 'Reload' and see the minecraft ping going down to ~100ms
</comment>

I tried to move my PC, change internet (LAN and 4G) and i still have the same problem. Could it be my pc? I saw a blog about this bug, for like 1 week ago, and there were actually several people having the same problem. I aint no computer genious, but i am pretty sure i dont have any virus or such thing. I also dont have any programs that bugs minecraft or my internet.

This bug is so annoying that i might consider re-installing windows over again. (hope not) x(
So please anyone that could help us out?!
</comment>
