Pausing in nether portals

What I expected to happen was...:
Paused the game, because in 1.3.2 i was able to pause it

What actually happened was...:
It didn't, and i continued going to the nether

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Make a nether portal
2. Enter it
3. ESC Pause the game

This is the cause for numerous softlocks and does nothing but facilitate griefing (as you can trap a player in a nether portal with no way to access most of their items, or even call for help in chat). Whatever duplication bug it was meant to solve likely no longer happens, and even if it does, a proper fix should just be implemented.
</comment>

Wrong, its not as it should be, you should be able to use at least CHAT, cos if you go to a portal quere both sides are obstructed and you cant break the block, since you have to get out and back in, you get stuck!
</comment>

But to be fair, this issue isn't really Mojang's problem since factions is a mod. That said, I still think you should be able to at least type while standing in a nether portal.
</comment>

However I don't think the exploit exists any more.
</comment>

There as of yet as been any confirmation about this issue working as intended, or whether any changes to this behaviour will be made.
</comment>
                            <comment id="160227" author="score_under" created="Mon, 26 May 2014 04:06:50 +0200"  >
Even if it were a limitation of the world saving mechanism (I very much doubt it), in my eyes this would make it more of a bug. What's saner: fix a bug in the save system, or disable pausing? (I don't think that is the issue, though, I just think it's a bad design decision)
</comment>
                            <comment id="160223" author="wahrheit" created="Mon, 26 May 2014 02:58:51 +0200"  >
There is no other use-case where you are unable to pause the game, except for the actual loading of a world you are switching to. As the inability to pause is not replicated elsewhere and the limitation is not documented, it is logical to infer that it is a bug.

It may not be an inconvenience to you, but it is up to the developers to mark it "working as intended."
</comment>
                            <comment id="160222" author="godgodgodgo" created="Mon, 26 May 2014 02:55:07 +0200"  >
This must be a bug, I cannot see any issues that could occur from being able to open a GUI while in a portal.

This is a big issue for some players as it can result in them not being able to play on servers.
For example if there is a portal blocked off in some sort of protection such as spawn protection then players will get stuck in that portal and have no way of escaping.
</comment>
                            <comment id="160207" author="chaonic" created="Mon, 26 May 2014 01:37:21 +0200"  >
I don't want to be mean, but I think, this is absolutely no bug, since it could possibly be a workaround to prevent being stuck between dimensions? (I don't know, how to describe it in other words XD)
The game saves when hitting ESC. Maybe there's a problem, when relogging to a world inside of a portal? And maybe it's just annoying, because you would have to go back again.

I don't know, but it seems okay for me. (No bug, if you ask me)
</comment>

In preventing any GUI, it also prevents talking which means that if you get trapped in a portal on SMP, you can't even use /spawn or /tp or call for help.
</comment>
