<comment id="145126" author="xastabus" created="Thu, 6 Mar 2014 22:53:36 +0100"  >
I don't see why they should fix this. I think having some doors randomly jammed open until someone comes along and interacts with them adds to the atmosphere of the strongholds. Maybe there was an earthquake that activated the button and some debris got lodged in the mechanism and by pushing the button you cause it to dislodge. Maybe a yet unknown monster could have forced the iron doors open (without breaking them the way Zombies do with wooden doors)... wouldn't that be frightening?!
The possibilities are endless.

From a technical perspective, it is possible to place iron doors in the open state using the setblock command. Each door facing has an open and closed datavalue. I have attached screenshots of myself placing an iron door in the open state with the setblock command. (I placed the door before taking the screenshots.)

Given this information it is conceivable that iron doors generating in the open position within strongholds could be working as intended.

It should also be noted that wood doors will exhibit the same behavior described if you manually open them and then apply a redstone signal.
</comment>

◾A starting point - a large room with a flat dirt floor, an arched ceiling and up to four exits (one in each direction).
◾Corridors - 3×3 block corridors featuring supports made from fences and wooden planks (sometimes complementary with torches), broken rails, chests (containing resources) and cave spider spawners surrounded by cobwebs.
◾Crossings - intersections with wooden pillars, sometimes two floors tall.
◾Staircases - diagonal sections of tunnel.

The generator continues to add pieces onto an exit until it reaches a "depth" of 8 (eight pieces from an exit).

Ive seen this always since Ive been playing MC. Are there static models of these structures? I was always under the impression its just basically quasi-random placement of sub-chunks following a 'life' style generator.
</comment>
