[MC-1334] Copied Map Goes Blank When Another Map is Used

                <project id="10400" key="MC">Minecraft: Java Edition</project>

What I expected to happen was...:
The map I copied would work the same as the map I had before. Once I switched back to it from a different map.

What actually happened was...:
The new map I created and the one I created it from went blank when I switched to another map as it was updating. Until I logged back in, the map showed nothing but white and a cursor.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Make a map (it was size 2 if I recall)
2. Copy map by putting it on a crafting bench with an empty map.
3. Shift click map (not sure if it was important that I did.)
4. Switch to another map when copied map is updating
5. Switch back to other map
6. Rage

For example: Should I open the copied map (stack of 2) before switching to the other one? And can the other one be of the same area? And should I create it when switching to it or should it be pre-created?
I tried some combinations and none of them triggered the bug in 1.10.
</comment>

steps:
Made map (#0), scaled it to x8 (became #1,#2,#3) and explored a bit.
made map elsewhere (#4), scaled it (briefly #1, then #5), again (briefly #2, then #6) and to x8 (briefly #3, then #7).
Checked map #3 with each scale step, it was fine until it blanked the explored part when enlarging map #6 to x8. It must be the brief overlap that does it.
Made map (#8), scaled it (briefly #5, then #9), again (briefly #6, then #10) and to x8 (briefly #7, then #11), found map #7 blanked.
The copies of my maps on the wall also went blank.

When I restarted Minecraft, all 3 maps were back to normal.

It would be nice if the number stayed the same when scaling maps. It's better to have maps #0,#1,#2... instead of #3,#7,#11...
</comment>

I haven't tested if drawing a new map (or exploring new areas on an existing map) will cause the rest to turn blank again. I might try it out, since I don't really care for the maps anymore.
</comment>

And just like Poker Chen commented, I noticed that the new map I was creating briefly had the same map # (#3) as a previously created map and then switched to a new # (#7). After this, map #3 was blank.
</comment>

In the first world I made, it took a few maps before the earlier maps I made started to turn blank. But since then, whenever I draw another map the previous map I made goes blank. I also noticed that sometimes a few pixels return, but then it stops drawing.

I have a screenshot of what a map looks like the last time it happened, on my server in the current version (1.5.2). I'm going to attach it to this.
</comment>

@Christophe
The first map you create is a very zoomed in version, you have to zoom out first to get unexplored areas on it.
</comment>
                            <comment id="53680" author="mysticfist" created="Fri, 15 Mar 2013 20:40:59 +0100"  >
I don't know but when i use a map it iz always showing the complete map immediatly.
I don't have to run around to explore everything.
I just use the map and it show immedialty the whole square (map). Which is weird as I saw on youtube the map was building up during the exploration.
So on youtube you got only a small part discovered and it was funny to see it grow.
Now it is just like you buy a complete map of a square with everything on it.
</comment>
                            <comment id="50969" author="zharmad" created="Fri, 8 Mar 2013 10:10:52 +0100"  >
Confirming. It seems that while the map is blanked out, you can still explore new chunks that have not yet been revealed. In other words, if the map that disappears hasn't been fully explored, only the explored bits get blanked, but you can still uncover the parts that has never been recorded in that map. This results in what looks like a blank cloud hanging over only the old bits.

In order to recreate this observation: do up a far zoom map, explore it somewhat, and create new maps until it blanks. ( I'm trying to make a 3x3 wall frame of zoom level 2 maps that shows in detail my level 3 and level 4 maps. It seems that when creating a map, it is initially assigned a number corresponding to a map that already exists thus blanking out that map. After a second or two, the map number updates to the expected.
</comment>
