[MC-1287] Minecraft doesnt work on Windows 8.

                <project id="10400" key="MC">Minecraft: Java Edition</project>

So basically Minecraft doesn't run on Windows 8. I bought Windows 8 so its legit and nothing is wrong but its just Minecraft. I tried updating the graphics drivers and still didn't work. The error is given as an OpenGL error although I installed the latest drivers for my graphics card and the operating system is recognised as Windows NT which is incorrect since I'm running windows 8. This problem should be fixed asap because many people might buy windows 8 which means more or or less, people will want to play Minecraft on their Latest OS.

I updated my graphics driver (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3400) but I am still unable to start the game. Minecraft was running fine before the upgrade from Vista to Windows 8. I have also gone into device manager and into display adapters to check that that is correct and it is. Is there anything else I can try?
</comment>

If you did a full install of 8 with anything you previously had being erased, then the old drivers would have been erased too.

Joshua, go to the website of the company that made your video card to get the latest drivers.
</comment>

When I update my drivers from device manager it still doesn't work.
</comment>
                            <comment id="18817" author="sir_desroy" created="Tue, 6 Nov 2012 18:18:01 +0100"  >
Figured it out. Its not driver related but I think Windows 8 forgets to update the driver internally because when I wen to update it I had the most up to date version. To fix:
Goto settings => control panel => system and security => system => device manager (located at the left) => display adapters => your graphics card then click the top two options and update them. Its a super quick update because all it does is apply the update it already has. Works for me anyways
</comment>
                            <comment id="18813" author="sir_desroy" created="Tue, 6 Nov 2012 17:53:40 +0100"  >
Nope, this isn't driver related. Its windows 8 related, before I updated to windows 8 I had up to date drivers which are compatible with windows 8. Now minecraft wont work with the same error message as you have said. All other games (half life, portal etc) worl fine for me, except minecraft.
</comment>

I'm sorry but I don't think we can be of further help, as it's outside of our control.
</comment>
                            <comment id="15331" author="_tdc_" created="Tue, 30 Oct 2012 09:36:18 +0100"  >
Hi.. So here's the error :
http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u399/ThatDiamondCrafter/error.png

I've tried updating my drivers for my graphics card, but no luck. It's an ATI Radeon hd 4350 Desktop Graphics.
</comment>
                            <comment id="15329" author="dinnerbone" created="Tue, 30 Oct 2012 09:20:23 +0100"  >
Please attach the error or we cannot look into it. Minecraft works fine on Windows 8 for myself and I know others have tried it with no problems too.

Check your graphics drivers, too. They may need to be updated to support win 8
</comment>
