While playing around on my world, a lot of times the world will just stop rendering which can lead to a number of issues. Sometimes I break blocks and they stay there, in this case if j placed a sapling it would render a little bit around the sapling, but if I entered the unrendered area, everything would turn invisible. Effects go away after the app restarts. |

Does this bug still appear in 0.12.1? If so please respond. |

There are a number of things in the world that could be causing this, it could be switching from survival to creative, or the use of non full blocks. |
