That's meant to happen. And hoeing mobs does same damage as hands without losing durability. |

I have observed some benefits with other tools - for example, wood does break slightly faster when using a sword, and pickaxes and axes deal mode damage per hit than fists. Also, the efficiency enchantment can help break certain items, such as wood and dirt, break faster even when on unsuited tools. |

Do the other tools provide any benefit in those situations? I can break stone with my fist and with a shovel at the same speed, can't I? |

Hoes do not lose durability when doing anything other than their intended purpose. This is probably because, unlike other tools, hoes provide no benefit at all when doing anything other than the intended function. |
