| Description |

When a tree is chopped down (Only wood), you would expect saplings and apples to drop from the leaves that are suppose to disappear. What is happening is the leaves won't drop saplings or apples right now without physically breaking the leaves yourself. |

It certainly does for me. I've had saplings dropped by jungle trees and oak trees - possibly birch too, but I don't remember. |

so the beta works fine? |

Am playing 0.12.1 on Android. |

0.12.0 and 0.12.0.1 are for windows 10 only. Android and ios players are still dealing with this foolishness. I am so very tired of breaking leaves. |

This bug seems to be fixed in the latest beta version (0.12.1 build 11). I now get a reasonable number of saplings falling without needing to destroy the leaves manually. |

Was attempting to play "Survival Island" challenge with my younger brother and sister. When breaking the initial tree, we didn't get any saplings (which isn't unheard of). After recreating the same world 4 times, and trying 5 different survival island seeds, we didn't get a single sapling. Unlike normal game play, these challenge game types usually depend on the player(s) getting a net increase of saplings. This has made the majority of these game types unplayable. We are currently using 0.11.1 alpha which is the latest release for IOS (as of writing this). We have tried natural leaf decay, and manually breaking them. |

4 month to fix such a critical bug. This is ridiculous! |

in what version is this fixed? I still experience this in 11.1 |

It is fixed, but apparently apple drops were handled separately. |

Will this issue ever be fixed??? |

I have been manually breaking leaves since 11.0. I have very recently begun to see apples again. I found two from breaking leaves on small oak trees. Happy! |

Yeah apples don't drop even in 0.12.0 beta 8 |

Is this still confirmed for the latest 0.12.0 builds? |

I'm running MCPE v0.11.1 alpha (the latest version) on an iPhone 5s with iOS 8.3, and I have been experiencing this issue as well. I noticed the issue after being spawned on an island with only three trees. After cutting down all three, I got only a single sapling. However, it seems if the leaves are destroyed by hand before the tree itself is cut, the sapling drop rate is significantly improved (3 saplings from a single tree according to my testing). This does not, however, increase the spawning of apples; I don't recall seeing a single apple since 0.11 was released, although I haven't been paying much attention until recently. |

Trees dosen't drop items in survival mode in the normal difficulty with mobs. Note also that I used an iPhone 5 with iOS 8.4 and Version 0.1.11 Alpha of Minecraft PE |

Bug is present in windows phone on normal difficulty, and peaceful |

Bug is only in survival > difficult > peacefull mode. If changed to difficulty with Monsters, more animals spawn and the trees spawn its babys again. If changed back to peacefull, the bug prevents spawning again. MC PE v.0.11.1 alpha - iOS 8.4 |

Still present in 0.11.1 Android. The decaying leaves left from chopping trees don't fall saplings nor apples. It's hard to get wood if this is still a bug. |

On version 0.11.0.12 I see this behavior if I cut the tree and wait leaf to fall. (no sapling) |

The G+ community consensus is that sapling drop rates are down. This is likely the second most commonly reposted bug in the community as of build 10. I have experienced this as well. In my testing world, I am struggling to plant and grow enough trees for the rate of wood consumption when I test bugs. This bug could also be related to the bug where harvesting food has low drop rates or to the bug where sometimes when you break a block you do not get anything dropped. Has anyone tested if the sapling drop counts are different if you break leaves instead of removing the tree trunk and waiting for the leaves to disappear? |

@luisrobles, I reopened the ticket because multiple users have reported this as an issue for the 0.11.0 Beta builds, claiming the drop rates to differ from earlier versions (see the account and comments in |

I'm only mostly convinced... It still seems the yield is a lot lower than it was on 0.10. Also, I'd urge someone to do this test: Cut 10 oak trees, wait for leaves to despawn, count saplings Cut 10 oak trees, destroy all leaves manually, count saplings I think I see more saplings if I destroy leaves. I'm also curious if perhaps the random chance of sapling is off by a decimal place – that is, it is 0.5% instead of 5%. I want to test this but I'm pressed for time right now. I'd urge some real testing before closing this. |

Trees drops saplings according to the Wiki, also the user who reported this says that it was only bad luck. No need to reopen this issue. |

And now upon further experimentation I'm seeing more reasonable drops too. My apologies! I must have had a particularly long streak of bad sapling luck (over a couple of worlds)... Perhaps I was stuck in a Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead loop |

50 leaves, 1/20 of the time (5%); that means that the average (NOTE: average) of the decayed saplings are 2.5 saplings per tree. I did what you said and trees dropped saplings, sometimes 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 or nothing. |

I urge the mod or devs to have a closer look at this issue. It really seems like a bug / new behavior for 0.11. The MC wiki states: Please start a new world, chop 10 Oak trees and see how many saplings you get. If, for arguments sake, each tree has 50 leaves that yields 500 leaves. If sapling drops are working according to the info on the wiki, then you should have approx. 25 saplings. In my experience w/ 0.11 so far, the true yield is on the order of 2 or 3 saplings. |
| Comment by Plethora777 [ 13/Apr/15 ] |

I disagree. I've chopped a number of trees (on the order of 10+) in different worlds and very often gotten zero or only 1 or 2 saplings out of them. Seems like a bug, or at least, if it is intended then perhaps it should be in a changelog as it is very different from 0.10 and earlier. It makes tree very nearly unsustainable which, is IMHO a game breaker. |

It is supposed to do that, sometimes trees doesn´t drop saplings, and sometimes trees drops saplings up to 6 or more saplings. This is Work as Intended. |
