 Description

You are suppose to just have the player go up a little bit on a carpet, but this weird FOV thing happens when you step on it your FOV goes out and then back in. It doesn't make sense.

I don't think that this is a bug, however this may be due to the fact that carpet raises the height of the player by 1/16 of a block because carpets have a 1/16 block thickness, similar to walking on top of half slabs but on a smaller scale. This feature was added since 0.9.0. I think this works as intended.

Hi Alex, I can't reproduce this, but I think that's because I need more context. Adding context and detail is very helpful in all bug reports so they can be confirmed.

Can you describe the environment in which this happens? I.e. 1 square of carpet, lots of carpet, carpet adjacent to blocks, chest, furnace, door, etc. Are there blocks above the carpet? and if so, at what height. I presume you are in 1st person view, not 3rd. Fancy graphics? How are you moving onto or off of the carpet? Are there circumstances where this change in Field-Of-View glitch does not happen when moving on/off of the carpet?
