[MCPE-4806] Long timeouts on iOS if have WLAN connection but no internet Created: 03/Aug/13  Updated: 08/Sep/15  Resolved: 17/Jul/14

Status: Resolved
Project: Minecraft (Bedrock codebase)
Component/s: None
Affects Version/s: 0.7.2
Fix Version/s: None

Type: Bug

Resolution: Cannot Reproduce Votes: 0
Labels: WLAN, connectivity, internet, wifi

Confirmation Status: Unconfirmed
Platform: Tablet - iOS - iPad

 Description

Trying to join another world on wifi when no Internet connection present.

What I expected to happen was...:
For the app to startup normally on the host ipad and open a world normally.

What actually happened was...:
Long delays at app startup and when opening world.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Connect device to wireless network but disconnect Internet connection from router
2. Start app
3. Observe delay

I wonder if it is trying to check in somehow with a Mojang server because it sees wifi and assumes Internet must be present. Then eventually the request times out and load/open proceeds.

Any thoughts? Am willing to do more testing if someone will look at this...

Use case is hotel where two players have local network but no Internet and still want to be in the same world. Realms doesn't help in this case (and iirc suffers from the same problem).
