This should not be working as intended, as previous comments have mentioned this bug has also occurred in the Java Edition and has been fixed. Affects 1.17.30.

This should be re-opened, it is still a issue and was fixed in Java last year with 1.14

No way this is working as intended. In Java, slabs blocks light. Bedrock doesn't.

I don't believe this is how it SHOULD be. This will also create very big differences between RTX and non RTX.

Is this really working as intended? According to the wiki that Kumasasa linked to, slabs and stairs block light, except in PE. Now that we're on Bedrock, what is the actual intended behavior?

Comment by Kumasasa [ 21/Feb/13 ]

This is based on the game mechanics. Slabs are considered as transparent (because they don't fill the whole block).

this isn't really a bug... mojang should keep this, it is helpful for hidden lighting designs.

Screenshots are taken on iOS (new iPad), not limited to Android.

The inside, which has 0 torches. The light comes in from the top edge of the stairs. If you replace the stairs with a dirt block, the inside is pitch black (as it should be).

Comment by Troy Parry [ 21/Oct/12 ]

light gets inside the fully enclosed area behind the stairs. It gets in from the top edge of the stairs that connect to the bottom edge of the dirt block.

Happens to me too. It happens when you place 2 blocks which only touch on the edge and not connected by a solid side. The light passes through the connecting edge, diagonally from 1 empty area to another.
