 Description

Hello(I'm French by the way so sorry for the orthographe mistakes! )!
I'm a minecraft java player and now i'm in windows 10 version, and my problem is that my crops grow really really slow, almost like they doesn't grow(between 20 and 30 days in-game without a fully growed crop).
I would like to now if that is a bogue or just normal, because it is stopping me in my project and if i need to use bone powder to make them grow it's a real problem for me.
Glad if someone can help me!

additional informations:
crops: wheat
position: at the side of a river
time without a stage passed: between 5 and 10 days in-game
light: they have light, don't now how many because I dosn't now how to activate the f3 of this version

Thank you for your report!
However, this issue has been closed as Working as Intended.

The crop growth speed has been assessed by the developers and is working as intended.

Remember not all differences between game versions/platforms of Minecraft are bugs. If you need help or have a suggestion you might like to follow a link below.

Thank you for the extra information and steps to reproduce the issue.

This was all on singleplayer

For me, the best way to test is to create a grass superflat world in any Bedrock edition (I've done it with newly created worlds on Xbox One and Windows 10). Simply replace 25 spots with dirt, but make sure they're surrounded by grass on every side. They should grow back soon, but they don't. At the same time, you can compare the growth rate of Java edition, where half the dirt turns back into grass by the time you've replaced the spots. That's what makes me think this is a glitch. I've stood above the grass for 15 minutes and only 4 of the 25 spots have regrown, even though each is fully surrounded by grass.

Can you please add any more details to help reproduce the issue?

Is this happening in, Realms or single-player? Xbox converted worlds?

Comment by Curdflappers [ 17/Dec/17 ]

Hey @Mega_Spud, this issue is not resolved! The crops are within loaded chunks, and they aren't growing at all. It's been weeks... this is definitely a glitch.

This issue is not resolved. Standing within a few blocks of sugarcane (I AFK'ed overnight) and it does not grow at all. Run around in circles for a few minutes and it grows. Somehow the growth tick is tied to player movement.

Please re-open this issue. This is occurring consistently for many users. This is an issue for me as well in v1.2.5, and it applies to the paths within my village. There is dirt surrounded entirely by grass, and it has not changed to grass for hours! This is not a chance occurrence, this is a bug.

Are the crops you mention within loaded chunks while you wait for them to grow? Staying within sight of them should allow them to grow normally, as they will be within loaded chunks.

Some of my crops grow normally such as watermelon, potato and pumpkin but crops such as sugarcane, wheat, and carrots take an eternity (even when standing right alongside of them. I really don't understand why different people have problems with different crops unless non "native" biome crops have been extremely nerfed; maybe they have been too severely penalized for not being in optimal biome.

Sugar cane takes an eternity to grow!!! Much much much longer than before the update. This is on Xbox One, v1.2.3. I went AFK for an hour and literally 2 cane out of an entire field had grown in that amount of time!

Having played the Java Edition, XBOX One Edition, and the Bedrock Edition on both XBOX and Windows 10 I will share my hypothesis. After some testing I have come to the conclusion that some fundamental differences between the Bedrock Edition (Better Together Update) and previous/other versions of the game are making it seem like a bug when in fact there is not one. In the Java and previous XBOX One edition, there were similar RandomTickSpeed (the variable that causes blocks with different states to update such as crops to grow and leaves decay). In the Bedrock Edition it appears that the RandomTickSpeed is much slower so everything that relies on that variable will take longer. Another difference between the Bedrock Edition and other versions is that the update radius for for such items has been reduced from 8 chunks in other versions to 4 or 5 in Bedrock. This means you must be closer to the crops for them to grow than other versions. So this may in fact not be a bug, but a feature change so that the game will be the same across all devices. And since not all devices have the same computational power, you end up with adjustments to ensure the game runs well on the slowest common platform. Now having said all that, I have yet to find anywhere that this has been stated so I may be incorrect. Just an educated guess.

Same problem. Potatoes, nether wart, carrots, sugar cane. Slow slow slow. 4 hours and some are stage 1 still.

I can confirm this issue as well. Since the btu came out EVERYTHING takes much longer to grow than they did on Xbox one edition. I started a new world when btu released. Chopped down trees, and replanted saplings in the same place as originally generated and some of them still have not grown... I cleared any tall grass/flowers around them and still nothing... I made a oak tree farm roughly 30x30 with optimal conditions fro growing, 7 blocks between trees torch centered between trees, raised the dirt block trees are planted on one higher than the rest of the ground and nothing... So then I go to the bonemeal, I run through up to a stack and a half before some of them will grow... I don't want to say anything bad about btu but Microsoft/Mojang needs to just slow down and fix the problems, ensure they cause no other bugs, then release an update... This cycle of here's a bug ridden update and now here's another update to fix those issues but introduce another set of bugs and ignore fixes that apply to playability is getting old. Some bugs are expected, sure but we are seeing releases that are a pain to even play... Is there testing happening before release in real world's people care about investing time into. It doesn't feel like it... An update releases and instantly I notice problems, how does this get by beta... I play about an hour a day, 4 to 5 days a week and I can see problems that seem to be getting by people who are paid to test this thing before release, doesn't sound right...

I've been experiencing the same for watermelons, pumpkins and sugarcane under the Xbox One version. On the old console version I could watch them grow constantly within minutes. Under the BTU they are painfully slow. I thought they were broken at first because it took so long for anything to grow.

I would say that the other crops such as wheat, carrots, red beats and potatoes are also slower in the BTU version. Not as bad, but still slower than the old console version. Can someone please look into the timing set on these? If you're a vegetarian you will starve under these conditions!

Same problem here with the Windows 10 Better together beta.

Have wheat and sugar cane planted and after many game days they have not grown at all. They are still on the first stages

Comment by PHO [ 24/Jul/17 ]

Hmm, I can't reproduce the problem. Crops are growing just normally in my worlds.

Comment by Abdu [ 23/Jul/17 ]

Yeah this happens to me too
