The reproduction of this bug is equivalent to the reproduction of
I am not 100% sure that step (2) is necessary, but I think it is. My theory is that because the chunk was outside of render distance in step (2), it only loads block data when it comes back into render distance in step (3), and then gets ticked before it can load entity data because the game is busy saving other chunks. The following more precise steps work in 1.17.30 without the Caves & Cliffs experimental generation. In future versions or with the experimental toggle enabled, you will need to use a different seed and location. Steps to reproduce

This happened to me too recently. I visited a stronghold below a desert village, and after exploring it when I flew back into the air I noticed that there were 3 desert temples nearby (3rd is just out of sight in this screenshot) : 2 and 3 had no chests at all, like some of the photos attached to this report by other players (everything about the temples is normal, including pressure plates & TNT etc; but no chests). However temple 1 had the chests. In case this specific orientation of the temples helps anyone else debugging, the seed is -1891601025 and coords of the stronghold are around (x,z) = (3400, -860). Flying from south to north above that village, you'll be able to see the desert temples as I did and as in the attached photo. Edit : After seeing the hypothesis here about it possibly being related to the render & simulation distances, and how the player moves, I imported a recent backup of the same world that I'd made just a short while before going to that area the first time, and generated those chunks again. Originally : Simulation distance 12 chunks, render distance 22 The 2nd & 3rd times: Same settings 2nd time, and then with simulation dist 8, render dist 22 for 3rd. A 4th try : Both sim and render dist = 12 chunks Other than the first time when I moved around a lot more while exploring the stronghold, the remaining 3 times I directly flew in to that area from the south (as in the screenshot) |

I could not reproduce a buried treasure failing to generate using the steps for temples, after a couple of tries. I have had it happen to me many times in previous versions though. It might be terrain features overwriting the chest (see MC-81467). |

If this is true with transitions between render and simulation distance, and the timing of auto-saving, I think more information needs to be added, In Bedrock the treasure chests are also missing. Not just temple treasure chests. Maps to the chests in sunken ships will not direct you to the proper location or they have simply disappeared due to the changes in spawning criteria. |

Inside the jungle temple, none of the dispenser nor both of the loot chests generate. Although the redstone, tripwire hooks, pistons, repeaters and levers generate correctly. What I expected to happen was: The temple having dispenser traps and loot chests. What happened was: There were no chest nor dispensers. Juju: Thank you for sharing your account. Just to clarify, reproduction steps on a bug report are meant to give the developers first of all a reliable way to reproduce the bug, and as a second priority an easy way to reproduce the bug. They do not necessarily need to reflect the way most users would encounter it. The flying fast in my second set of steps and video is not essential. That is why I gave the first set of steps, which just describe the transitions between render and simulation distance, and the timing of auto-saving. I'm not sure how to explain the pressure plate missing in some of your temples. |

This is happening in 1.17 a lot. Bedrock edition. I have found a total of 9 temples since summer through to last night and all but one were empty. No chests generated and no floor plate in center. The seed I was on last night was -1385578754 and Coordinates were 762 57 552. I did not just run up to temple the minute I saw it from the distance. My render was still set on 8 chunks from a previous need and I hadn’t set it back to 12 yet. I was tinkering in a village further north on the 3/4 map where the temples are. There are two villages, each with a separate temple, not far apart. I had been in the first village about 40 minutes. When I approached the first temple I didnt go in. I was setting up my horse and asked the world owner if they had seen it yet. While waiting for an answer I broke one block beside front door to get a better view of floor (buried in one block of sand,) and saw the floor still in tact with the purple terracotta center. The owner said no and I chose to pass it up since it was close to spawn and where she was and wanted to let her have it first. I continued further south on that 3/4 map and was surprised to find another temple. Good deeds and all that jazz…so I spent about 10 minutes getting my horse inside and blocking his way out. Then I proceeded to spiral my way down on outside but could tell before 1/2 way that there were no chests. I went a bit further to see if the pressure plate was there and it wasn’t. I did not dig under to see if TNT was there. No one else plays her world but us two. She hadn’t been south of the spawn 3/4 map we started with. I will try to remember to update this with seed and coords of my new world I generated early in week where this happened and my friend said it was empty. I had found it before him and didnt get really close to it. I dont know how many blocks away. I didnt go nearer because I was saving it for my friend. He had been generous on his world so I kept the temple untouched for him to enjoy and gave him the coordinates. But when he told me it was completely empty. No chests at all. He thought I was playing a joke on him but I wasn’t. Really ruined my reciprocated generosity. |

I tried and was unable to reproduce this by approaching the location of a the desert temple given in my previous comment chunk-by-chunk and then checking chunk data in MCCToolchest. I found that the temple and its chests generate as soon it is within Render Distance + 2 chunks of player position. I should note, though, that there is a dungeon spawner in the same chunk. I found that dungeon spawners trigger chunks to generate before they are in simulation distance. In MCCToolChest it looked like other chunks would model/render but not actually generate until they were within simulation distance. I'm not sure if temples normally trigger early chunk generation by themselves. |

I just found one (a temple with no chests) when playing on a realm with my Switch. I don't think I wrote down the coords and don't have the seed, but will note this if I run into another where I can get this info. Switch version 1.5.3. and a current realm. |

I have now found three desert temples, and two jungle temples. Two of the three desert temples had chests, and one of the jungle temples. So it looks like this issue also applies to jungle temples as well. |

This must be sporadic behavior since yesterday we traded for a Woodland adventure map. While on this adventure more than 25,000 blocks east and 15,000 blocks south (and they say coordinates are cheats) we passed two and all 4 chests were present in both with loot. |
