I've been getting a lot of this since I updated to 1.1.0... my base happens to be at the intersection of 4 chunks so it became obvious it's a chunk problem. Pic shows full dark right next to my torch. Android v1.1.0 on Samsung Galaxy GP |

I've had one side of jack o'lanterns be completely dark. And blocks 2 spaces from a torch be completely dark until I broke and replace them, then they and the surrounding area would finally render with the correct light level. |
