 Description

Whenever I use the chat in the Lifeboat server (that's the only server that I know is working right now, but that's an unrelated issue), there's a chance that my game will freeze up and crash. This is really inconvenient because I like being able to chat with other players. This doesn't seem to happen in single player. It once froze for a moment in single player, but then started working a couple seconds later. The first time it froze in a server, it froze my whole computer along with it and I had to hard reset (holding down the power button until it turns off). If anyone else is having this problem, please explain it in the comments. Thanks.

Update: Most other servers seem to be working now, and this problem is happening on those as well.

Update: This is still happening on the Better Together beta and it does happen in singleplayer.

Update by Mega_Spud:

The development team are actively working on this issue and it is scheduled to be fixed in an upcoming update.

This happens to me Every time I try and open the chat when I’m a client in a multiplayer lan world. It’s fine when I’m hosting it or in single player.

It seems like this issue was fixed for Windows 10. I haven't run into it since 1.2.3 came out

Comment by Judi Maniluka [ 23/Oct/17 ]

This happens to me on the Xbox One too

Comment by gabe wycoff [ 15/Oct/17 ]

i have the same problem but... if you close minecraft fast enough, your PC doesn't need to be restarted as the effect of the freeze will only last 10 seconds

Comment by Jonathan Hanzel [ 15/Oct/17 ]

This happens to me all the time!

Comment by Tamara Strom [ 15/Oct/17 ]

I just got froze while typing no commands in chat.
WHY

Comment by Andrew Steven [ 11/Oct/17 ]

yes, 3 seconds before close all or computer freezes... and only solution is restart the computer

Comment by Tamara Strom [ 08/Oct/17 ]

I agree it's so annoying, especially with severs that uses a lot of commands.
Also just for me if you don't close your minecraft soon enough my computer freezes and I have to restart it.

This happened to me and resulted in an 0x80040200 error and can no longer load the app w/o it crashing.

Thanks BeastyTester47 for getting in touch with the dev's and Bugs.mojang.com team for me. Cannot wait until this is resolved.

Comment by Johnny Mason [ 03/Oct/17 ]

Oh thank god

Comment by Clara Stickney [ 30/Sep/17 ]

I have had the same thing happen in Mineplex server as well as Lifeboat

Comment by Jon Vi [ 30/Sep/17 ]

The helpful idea I said works on single player too!

Comment by Daniel Santana II [ 30/Sep/17 ]

its the same for single player :/

Comment by Jon Vi [ 28/Sep/17 ]

I think I figured it out. I have my GUI or HUD Size medium and I always crash but when I have it on minimum, I can chat with no problem. I have not tested max but hope this is useful

Comment by Jon Vi [ 27/Sep/17 ]

I just restarted my iPad 4 and my chat stopped crashing. Hard reset to be exact

Comment by Andrew Steven [ 27/Sep/17 ]

This is a fatal mistake... we need a fast solution, i dont like to play without chat or commands

Comment by Louie Vassall [ 27/Sep/17 ]

Chat crashes in my realm since last update 1.2.1 it’s unplayable line that all my friends have the same problem

Comment by Noah Jelen [ 25/Sep/17 ]

It also happens in singleplayer mode

Comment by Benjamin [ 21/Sep/17 ]

After updating to 1.2, I was hoping this issue would of been fixed, but it still exists. I get the same, If I open chat and type something straight away, sometimes Mcpe freezes. I have to close the app and restart again.

Event viewer only shows this :

Package Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_1.2.81.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe+App was terminated because it took too long to suspend.

I've noticed that it happens if I type something without delay after opening the the chat box. If I wait a second or two then it doesn't seem to freeze the app.

Specs : Windows 10 x64 Cpu i7 4770k, 16gb ddr3 ram, latest Nvidia whql driver (different drivers make no difference).

Comment by Noah Jelen [ 21/Sep/17 ]

It happens in singleplayer also.

Comment by Hazard [ 17/Sep/17 ]

they do though, @Chupacaubrey

{Aubrey Norris}

has been looking at all the bugs and still we have had no reply for this.

Comment by Tim Propst [ 10/Sep/17 ]

Mojang/Minecraft doesn't really know about this because it doesn't crash- it just freezes the rest of your PC. A crash sends an automatic report.

Comment by Tru Moo [ 19/Aug/17 ]

Happens on all systems Im pretty sure i asked all my friends with Windows 10 Edition, they said they get it too, but in my case its BAD because after my game crashes from trying to chat, if I dont close the Minecraft window fast enough, my whole PC crashes. And i mean the Audio starts stuttering and eventually my computer freezes up and wont recognize any input. And im forced to hold the power button and turn off then reboot my computer. Its very surprising that a Windows Store game has the power to crash my whole computer. Mojang/Microsoft you NEED to fix this bug Its been around since the first release of 1.1 and has been with us Windows 10 users for almost 3 months now. All these updates do is fix Android and IOS bugs and add paid skin packs. At this point Im not even sure if Mojang or Microsoft is even aware of the issue, But it HAS to be fixed soon. Becuase not only me, but almost EVERY Win10 user has been complaining about this. Cmon Mojang get your act together please.

Comment by Lightracer12 [ 15/Aug/17 ]

What's the processor of your systems? Since it happened on an AMD in my case, what are yours? Maybe we can narrow the cause down while we wait

Comment by Hazard [ 14/Aug/17 ]

They should try to add an error report in the next 1.2 update if a crash is ever detected so then we can monitor the issue and It would make things easier for them...

Comment by Henry Markle [ 14/Aug/17 ]

Yeah me too.
but does mojang team even listen to us??

Comment by Lightracer12 [ 14/Aug/17 ]

Happens to me too. I tried to monitor it and what I have found is that Minecraft for some reason consumes ALL the RAM when the chat bug is happening, making the computer freeze as it has no more RAM to use.

Comment by Hazard [ 13/Aug/17 ]

I have this issue all the time. I work on the BrokenLens Network and I have this issue all the time when I try to ban users or type in the chat in general. This is not the server's issue as I have already contacted my boss about it and nothing shows up in the server code.

It happens when I am typing and all of a sudden you never know when it will happen it will crash your mouse will stop moving 1-2 seconds later and then if you have music on it completely crashes your music, your screen, everything... I have no other choice but to hard reset and wait 12 minutes for my laptop to restart itself then reload minecraft Windows 10 Edition and then wait for the "Global Crash Detected" alert to show up

I do hope that this will get fixed soon.

Comment by Lightracer12 [ 13/Jul/17 ]

I'm also experiencing this x-x. Very inconvenient and unpredictable. You don't know if the game will decide to lock up or not :/

Comment by Tru Moo [ 08/Jul/17 ]

Still not fixed on version 1.1.3

Comment by gabe wycoff [ 05/Jul/17 ]

this needs to be fixed as soon as possible

Comment by gabe wycoff [ 05/Jul/17 ]

same think happens to me, and mostly happens when im using commands on servers

Comment by Secret [ 17/Jun/17 ]

I have this exact issue, the only time I can chat without crashing is whenever I'm in the pigraid server lobby, and nobody seems to want to chat with me there. So I try to find creative servers and use signs to communicate. It seems like mojang doesn't give a crap. Lifeboat crashes chat for me too, and every other server.
