 Description   

Hopefully this is a simple bug to fix.
Basically, when an observer block is placed down, and there is a solid block touching it (on the output side) — and a block is updated in front of the observer, the redstone signal from the observer is not powering the block touching the output side.
What I'm trying to do is have this happen (which should work):
Reed grows (block updates) --> observer detects --> observer sends signal from output --> powers adjacent solid block behind it --> powers redstone dust --> powers a piston

The cobblestone block should be getting powered right?
Hope this can be fixed!

Yeah, but then I can't make a line of them for a big automatic farm, the redstone dust connects to each other so whenever one observer is powered it powers all of the pistons down the line. I wanted each of them to be independent so it could harvest 2 sugar cane each time if that makes sense, but I guess I'll just do it that way anyways. Thanks for the input and fast replies m8

An easy work around is to flip the Redstone and cobblestone so the Redstone will power the cobblestone which will power the piston.

Thanks for the report, however this is currently working as intended and has been resolved as working as intended.
Observers in MCPE do not produce strong power as in MCPC but instead produce weak power.
