I can confirm that installing the Media Feature Pack via "Settings > Apps > Optional Features" has corrected the issue for me.

System information is as follows.

  • Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3820 CPU @ 3.60GHz
  • Windows 10 Pro N
    • Version 20H2
    • Build 19042.804
    • Feature Pack 120.2212.551.0
  • .NET FrameworkΒ 4.8.04084

I have this issue on 1.16.20002.0 and the media pack update didn't do anything as I'm using a fresh install of windows 10 ARM version.

I managed to figure this out. Installing the latest Media Feature Pack from May 2020 did the trick for me.

Hello Peter,

I am the original poster for this support ticket. I have since built a new computer and stopped experiencing the issue. I have no clue as to what the problem comes from. All the information shown above is all the information I have. I apologize I could not be of any help.

Best regards,

Kevin

Dear anybody, who is this ticket assigned to? And what is going on? And why not?

I mean... I reported a bug over a week ago. Before that it took me a month to get my laptop repaired, then another week to re-install the game from the Microsoft Store and try all sorts of things to get the game working. And a week ago a found a way to submit this to support and since than every day my son asks me about 10 times if there are any news. When can he play the game he used to play before the laptop had to be fixed.

And now... my ticked was "resolved" due to a duplicate - this ticket. And this ticket is open since Feb 2017? So, what do I tell to my son? That as this is going on, he'll be able to play a game probably sometime when he'll go to college.

Please, be a professional company and at least answer what's going on and then:

  • resolve and close this ticket with some resolution type, like fixed.
  • provide info what I have to do (either reinstall, reconfigure, tweak some settings, install some framework,... whatever) to play the game on the same Windows version as before, ... if not possible...
  • provide another version of Minecraft, another game, whatever I can give my son to play, ... if not...
  • refund the money paid for this game and additions and I go and buy my son some other toy or a game that works.

Β

Thanks! Peter

This is still an issue. I bought the game in Dec 2018 and it worked fine. Last week my disc needed to be formatted and the same Windows 10 were reinstalled. Well, probably with updates since then... I installed the game again from Microsoft Store and when clicking the game icon, the red Mojang window opens for 2-3 seconds and then closes. That's it.
Does the game have a bug? Do I need to install something else on the laptop? Like some framework, Java, whatever... that I don't know? TnxΒ

Is this a thing in 2020?

Comment by Alexis Cox [ 14/Mar/18 ]

This is an ongoing problem to this day.

On certain computers, the game will crash after the Mojang logo if it is in Fullscreen mode. Sometimes, if one is fast enough getting the app to windowed mode and the game was the first thing started after a fresh system restart, the game will finish loading and work, so long as it is left in windowed mode. However, the game doesn't respect its own settings to load in windowed mode on subsequent executions and switching to fullscreen mode crashes the game immediately.

The game is being run on a laptop computer with "Switchable Graphics" where the low-power GPU is an AMD Radeon HD 8650G (integrated into the APU A10-5750M). The gaming GPU is a Radeon HD 8970M. Graphics drivers are limited by the 8650G to AMD's 15.7.1 and 16.2.1 beta releases ( https://support.amd.com/en-us/download/desktop/legacy?product=legacy3&os=Windows%2010%20-%2064 ) which are installed and working properly in all other games and applications. Forcing the Minecraft App to use one GPU or the other has no effect on the crash.

Actually, when it isn't connected to the internet, it hangs on the MOJANG logo.

Comment by Kevin Yoshino [ 05/Mar/17 ]

SuperGeniusZeb, I've tried rebooting it and reinstalling it. Checked my driver's and windows updates as well and the problem still persists.

Comment by Zeb [ 04/Mar/17 ]

Continued from my previous post...

After rebooting my computer, the game was able to start up normally. If you reboot your device, does the game open up as it should, kevinythepanini?

Comment by Zeb [ 02/Mar/17 ]

Confirmed to affect 1.0.3. I'm actually experiencing this to... that, or a separate crash that acts in the same way. On my computer the windows stays open longer, but that could just be because my computer is slower, or the attached GIF is sped up, or both.

Anyone?
