 Description

I HAVE SINCE FOUND OUT THAT THIS ISSUE ONLY EXISTS WHEN THE GAME IS PURCHASED FROM THE AMAZON APP STORE

I reported this issue before, but it was marked as fixed. It still exists in version 1.0.0, so it hasn't been. Sorry for re-reporting, but I couldn't see a way to change the issue status.

I have had serious problems trying to get any of my controllers to work with the game. I have tested with the 360 controller (wired and wireless with USB reciever), GameSir G4 (Bluetooth) and the Gamesir G3W (OTG). When I launch the game I have control of nothing but the player's movement (backwards, forwards and strafe) presumably because it sees the game pad stick as keyboard arrow keys. No other part of the pad does anything and it cannot be assigned in the game controller menu.

I have tried this on my Oneplus one and my Lenovo Tab 2 A10. There are no problems using these controllers on the Windows 10 Edition.
Thanks

I still have the Minecraft from the google play store installed on my fire and it now works perfectly with the xbox one controller.

Confirmed working here as well; be nice if Mojang would have said something either here in one of the multiple tickets opened for this issue or in the patch notes.

Good, then it isn't just me.

@Pooka Mustard Mine's been working since 1.12

Installed the 1.13.0 update from Amazon. My controller is working as it should've been! I can move both character and camera around, place and break blocks, rebind keys, sprint, jump and fly.

Everyone, please confirm this is the case and not an isolated incidence.

I ended up installing the google play store on my two kindle fire 10 hd to download and the xbox one controller pairing "worked" - but still not as good as the controllers work on the xbox.  Kindle + xbox one controller would be a VERY economical platform to consume bedrock minecraft if the controller support was better.

I'd love to see Minecraft Earth available on tablets as well...

Oh. Oh dear.

I was going to say there was some misunderstanding and something about controller support on Kindles, but it took me a second to register the screenshot's purpose. Not even Amazon controllers work with the game. Well, so much for that. This got on a new level of ridiculous.

@Pooka Mustard Nope just tested

Only Left Right Up and Down works as previously mentioned

@Jonathen Hanzel I just downloaded the latest version of Stardew Valley off Amazon. 1.285amazon to be precise. While it doesn't work in the settings menu and the main menu, it works everywhere else: moving around, cutting grass, switching items, accessing the inventory and navigating it, etc.

Also, I read once before that only Amazon controllers work with the game. I don't think I can find where this was said or who, but it is something to consider.

Comment by Erin Anderson [ 25/Jun/19 ]

@Jonathan Hanzel - IF that were the case, then Mojang could easily respond to this bug ticket with that information themselves, and let us know they were trying to deal with Amazon to get it sorted out. Additionally, that has to be something the developer deals with Amazon to get fixed, not the players, so no matter what the action here is still on Mojang.

My conversation with an Amazon chat support employee stated they do not believe there is any restriction on using game controllers. I would like this issue resolved as my son would like to play and i dont really want to have to install Google Play just to get one game

Comment by Jonathan Hanzel [ 25/Jun/19 ]

To clean up confusion, it is the Amazon App Store itself that doesn't support controllers. Amazon has removed the ability to add controllers to Amazon App Store apps and games. So this has to be taken up with Amazon

Comment by Erin Anderson [ 12/May/19 ]
  1. I assume when you say "The Amazon app store does not support controllers", you mean the Amazon App Store version of Minecraft.  The Amazon Appstore (or its associated app) have no control or input over this issue whatsoever.
  2. Even if the controller were somehow being recognized as a "keyboard" device, then the Settings screen would register and allow you to select key bindings in the Keyboard section of settings which it does not.

They have intentionally disabled Controllers in the Amazon App Store version of the game, and to date refuse to enable it for some reason that they have decided not to share with any of their customers that paid for it there. Very disappointing to say the least.

Comment by Jonathan Hanzel [ 28/Mar/19 ]

I found the cause:

The Amazon app store does not support controllers, so when a controller is connected, it uses it as a keyboard

Just confirmed problem still exists in 1.10 that just released.

Comment by Disintegrator Games [ 19/Jan/19 ]

I can confirm that this does not work as of Update 1.8.1.
Please, please, please fix, Mojang. This is a big issue, and more people care than you think.

Is there an easy way to install the Google Play version on a Kindle Tablet?  Why is the amazon version broken?

Comment by Pooka Mustard [ 20/Dec/18 ]

Amazon Appstore version still doesn't work with all controllers as of 1.8.0. If the Amazon version is this buggy and doesn't seem to be going to be fixed anytime soon, any way to instead claim a Google Play version with a receipt of the Amazon copy?

Also - there appears to be a long history of this not working (if it ever did).

Confirmed this is still an issue on 1.2.9 of the Amazon Store version.

I have tried two different controllers on two different Fire tablets. The right stick, A B X Y buttons, shoulder bumpers, and triggers do NOT work. The left stick works except for down click.

Tablets:

  • 7" 2015 (5th Gen)
  • HD 10, 7th Gen, 2017

Note: both of the controllers work just fine on non-Amazon phone/tablets. They also work fine in other games running on the Fire tablets.

  • Generic bluetooth game controller.
  • Xbox one controller.

Can confirm, still persisting in 1.2.8. I just got a Steelseries Stratus XL bluetooth controller that works flawlessly for everything else on my S7 Edge but the exact same symptoms with my Amazon version of MCPE. Many forums note the same thing.

This is still an issue with 1.1.5 from the amazon app store.

Comment by Julian Petford [ 29/May/17 ]

I just checked with the current version on Amazon app store (1.0.9) and the problem still exists.

Comment by Luis Robles [ 19/May/17 ]

Could you confirm is this issue still affects 1.1.0.9?

Comment by Julian Petford [ 27/Dec/16 ]

I have since bought the game on the Google Play store to see if there was a difference and that seems to have solved the problem. Apparently only the Amazon App Store version has this problem. I wish I didn't have to buy the game twice along with 2 controllers before I discovered this though!

Comment by Julian Petford [ 26/Dec/16 ]

I now have a Gamesir G4, as it is documented as having worked with this controller in the past. However, it doesn't work either. (With exactly the same symptoms)

Comment by Julian Petford [ 19/Dec/16 ]

In the unlikely case that this is relevant, I am using the version from the Amazon app store, not the Google Play store.
