this issue is pretty infuriating (as an artist myself) especially since I took the time to plan out a map art, only to find out that the colors are different in bedrock than in java, and the color reference photo I used was from java edition. I have to scrap an entire project until this gets fixed, and I was really excited to get working on it too.

Bug still present in 1.19.0, not fixed in the 1.19.10 previews, and no sign of being fixed any time soon

If at least the terracotta map colors were added we would have the same amount of colors as java

Comment by Mr. K [ 07/Dec/21 ]

Contrary to the description, purpur still doesn't show up properly in maps in the End dimension (e.g. end cities aren't visible on maps). Purpur should be moved to the "not fixed" category on this basis.  In Overworld maps, purpur does seem to show up correctly, so I would think adding a note to the bug description would be appropriate

Seconding Marcus on every terracota (not glazed) being the same color as concrete, wool etc, making map arts essentially impossible.
Also wondering if it is the devs intention to make maps exactly the same as in java (all block colors and the ways shadowing works)

I noticed that Normal Shulker Box appears same as White Shulker Box on the map, I was going to create a ticket about this however it could be resolved as duplicate. So I wanted to write this here.

Comment by Marcos Vinícius Santos Araújo [ 30/Dec/20 ]

Not just the white terracota, all 16 terracota colors (not the glazed ones) are wrong, they show the same map color as concrete, wool, stained glass and glazed versions.

Update on this issue:

Red Sandstone, Sandstone, Quartz, Diorite and their variants are fixed.

Logs and planks are partly fixed (acacia planks appear dark gray).

Acacia log appears gray and stripped acacia log appears orange.

Wood Fences and wood fence gates are very little fixed (most of them appear like oak wood planks).

Brick and it's variants are fixed except Brick Stairs (appear gray).

Stone Bricks appear light gray (slabs, stairs and walls appear gray).

Mossy Stone Bricks appear light gray (walls and stairs appear gray).

Glowstone appears like sandstone.

Granite appears like dirt.

Andesite appears gray.

Mushroom and Mushroom Stem Blocks appear like Brown Mushroom Block.

White terracota is still white.

Seeing this issue on Bedrock Windows 10. With all the slabs, especially. They're showing as grey. Which kinda sucks, cause I was trying to do some simple pixel art on my mob farm roof. Guess I'll have to wait, or use some other unspawnable blocks, till this issue is fixed.

This bug is on Nintendo Switch.

@Auldrick noted and added to my test world

Comment by [MCPE Mod] Auldrick [ 13/Mar/18 ]

A few days ago I noticed that sandstone is gray like smooth stone, but it's not on the not-fixed list above.

Can confirm that some blocks have weird/wrong colors, and some don't even appear at all.

Comment by WingDing [ 21/Feb/17 ]

Can you test some of the listed blocks to confirm that I'm not the only one?

Comment by [MCPE Helper] Aspergerian [ 21/Feb/17 ]

So this is affecting 1.0.4.0 then.

Comment by WingDing [ 21/Feb/17 ]

Yup @Aspergerian

Comment by [MCPE Helper] Aspergerian [ 21/Feb/17 ]

Is this still in effect?

Comment by [MCPE Mod] Celesian [ 03/Jan/17 ]

A comparison from the java edition.

I have edited out the end rod, cake, and mob heads from your main list, since they don't get shown on java maps
