When a stacked snow layer is broken by a retracting piston, the snow layer drops as a single "stacked top snow" item, not individual top snow item(s). You don't need pistons to reproduce it. Any blocks that cannot support gravity-affected blocks can break snow layers without turning them into snowballs, like:

That is rarely not a glitched item. That snow item that you are saying is represents the amount of snow within the time you placed it. This meant that it is only a secret item. And btw,what is the name of the "glitched" snow that was in your picture? |

More details on attachments: The 922kB image is the "glitched item" image. Here, it is the 6th item in inventory. This was made with 5 snow layers. Sorry. I am on tablet and cannot rename images. |
