 Description

Xperia Z5

The beacon beam is visible within 65 blocks only. If you go farther than 65. It'll disappear. I tried changing the render distance to max and the bug still occurs.

Update: I've noticed that it has something to do with the simulation distance. As the beacon is treated like an entity instead of a normal block. It disappears along with it's beam at a certain point, just like other entities like chests, mobs, plants, fire and end crystals.

I can confirm this bug for Minecraft: Playstation 4 Edition 1.20.62.

I hope this bug gets fixed soon, even though Bedrock Edition prioritizes permformance, it is not suitable for the beacon to be "performant". This issue had to have been resolved by now as many people are still coming back to this page to report the bug over and over again. Also, hardware is a lot stronger these days and there is no reason for this bug to still exist.

Comment by The_duck_of_life [ 09/Jan/24 ]

This has been an issue for so long it seems like it is actually intended, though defeating the purpose of a beacon.

Comment by GK6475 [ 09/Jan/24 ]

This continues to be an issue in 1.20.51.

Comment by DerpyKebab [ 29/Jun/23 ]

still an issue

Comment by nathonhay [ 01/Mar/23 ]

When I first began using beacons (in Creative), I thought they were there to help me find my way back somewhere. But they disappear! A "beacon" by definition is a wayfinder; it is not regularly understood as an effect generator. Mojang, please make an exception for this one item that is the very best built-in item to be a wayfinder to de-render only at a very far distance. Thank you.

Hoppers, Chests, Banners, Paintings, Anvills, Signs, Trapdoors and Minecarts all have similar issues

Comment by Gujamin [ 28/Jun/22 ]

Still an issue in 1.19.2…

Comment by PixelNinja [ 23/May/22 ]

Active in 1.18.31 PS5. It can't take this long surely

Comment by Mr. K [ 02/Feb/22 ]

Affects 1.18.2. This bug is very noticeable now that beacons are commonly placed at negative Y coordinates in order for the beacon effects to reach down to bedrock. At the surface the beam doesn't render, even right on top of it

Comment by Douglas F Correa [ 30/Nov/20 ]

This bug is somehow simultaneously reported as MCPE-25228 & MCPE-17595. If 70 blocks is the entity render limit, perhaps a bug report should be opened stating that beacon beams should not be considered entities in terms of how they're rendered.

Comment by GinePik [ 01/Oct/20 ]

Affects 1.16.200.53 Beta.

Well in Java Edition this issue does not exist, so it's diffferent from JE and in order to make the synchronization between BE and JE, please fix this.

I geuss you guys can give a tag to the becaon light beam which marks it to be a enity can be rendered from far away distances.

Confirmed for 1.16

This bug breakes one use of the beacon: The player should be able to use it to find the location where the beacon is from far away.

Comment by Blobs2 [ 20/Apr/20 ]

The beacon beam is a block entity model, which yes, disappears before block models. I believe it renders as long as it is within simulation distance (which is separate from render distance. If you are worried about getting lost, turn on "Show coordinates", and record where your base is.

Comment by Josiah Kiehl [ 17/Apr/20 ]

I hate this bug. Beacons are supposed to help people find their way but by the time you see the beam, you will most likely see the building. Makes them only good for effects and it annoys me.

Comment by user-b2f98 (Inactive) [ 15/Jan/20 ]

Easy fix is to rename it from Beacon to Buffer and remove the beam entirely ;p

Comment by Marijn Hendriks [ 15/Nov/19 ]

The other particles have this also

Comment by Ali Djeffal [ 17/Sep/19 ]

So why was console edition different? The light would disappear at Max chunk distance, for me playing on Switch that should be 14 chunks of visibility for Bedrock, whatever function the beacon works on needs to be changed into its own unique function so when everything around the beacon disappears when further away you can still see the light, gotta do something instead of just leaving a broken beacon in the game u know🤷

Comment by AlexanderJ. [ 17/Sep/19 ]

The Problem is: This is a beacon and the logical basic function of a Beacon is the far visibility.

in german: Leuchtfeuer; in latain: malus navis

Comment by Ali Djeffal [ 17/Sep/19 ]

Well I can see this has been updated so could it be fixed anytime soon? I'd like to use beacons again..

Comment by 753980 Volts [ 10/May/19 ]

This issue still affects 1.11.1

Comment by Potion [ 11/Oct/18 ]

Its a block-breaking bug ruining creations. And if thats the case then thats that. If it isn’t fixed anytime soon then ill just re create my builds which I’m capable of doing.

..

Comment by [MCPE Helper] Aspergerian [ 11/Oct/18 ]

It depends on the priority list.
Considering this isn't a "game-breaking" bug, it won't likely be fixed anytime soon (maybe later down the line).

Comment by Potion [ 11/Oct/18 ]

They are aware of this issue? I wouldn’t be so negative if it was dealt with. And considering fixing it? You realise this bug makes the beacon a useless block. I’ll wait tho I’m sure some year it will be fixed.

Comment by PC_Screen [ 11/Oct/18 ]

Don't be so negative. The bug report is still open and they are aware of this issue, which means they are still considering it. They just haven't got around to fixing it yet.

Comment by Potion [ 11/Oct/18 ]

Won’t be fixed in 1.7 or 1.8 so I’m guessing it won’t be fixed at all.

Comment by 753980 Volts [ 22/Sep/18 ]

Still present in 1.6.1

Comment by PC_Screen [ 15/Aug/18 ]

A possible solution for this would be swappping the beacon beam for a non animated block similar to how it's done to kelp at a distance

Comment by Tim Propst [ 14/Aug/18 ]

Can confirm for 1.5.2

Comment by hytsnbr10519 [ 08/Feb/18 ]

Still affects in 1.2.13.5.

Comment by Mark Roger [ 18/Dec/17 ]

To Reproduce

Build a beacon. Walk away until it disappears but the chunks around it do not.

Comment by John Nicholl [ 02/Nov/17 ]

This limitation is also the reason making farms based on entity mechanics almost pointless. Where you have to be standing right next to a farm for it produce anything. If Parity is truly a goal with this game then Entity Processing should operate at the same distance as the java version.

Comment by [MCPE Mod] Auldrick [ 02/Sep/17 ]

Assuming a beacon beam is an entity (which it should be since it's animated), this is consistent with other entities including boats, minecarts, and all mobs. The game only renders entities within a 70-block spherical radius of the player. On level ground, this is a distance of 4 1/2 chunks and includes all but the farthest corners of the 5x5 chunk update range. I always assumed this was by design.

Comment by Peter Hedberg [ 17/Aug/17 ]

Happens on Windows 10 Edition too. I see the pyramid below it much further than the beacon beam.

Comment by Scott Beaver [ 22/Dec/16 ]

I'm having a similar problem in 1.0, but it's 32 blocks on mine. I have a GS7 edge.
UPDATE: Bug still present after 1.0.5, but the 32 block distance only seems to be in my old world that I created before 0.8. I created a new world with 1.0.5 and the beam disappears at 65 blocks, same as on my Samsung tablet.

Comment by WingDing [ 07/Dec/16 ]

Still occurs in 1.0.0.0
