 Description

Since the 0.16 betas villagers won't breed naturally. I've tried different scenarios for them to breed but they won't. This also is happening in world's created before I had installed the betas.

This is a link to the video where I show the bug in game

This is happing to my villagers no matter what they will not harvest crops or breed

Comment by Michael Macdonald [ 19/Mar/18 ]

Villagers don't breed in the end for me. I have a brown coat and purple coat on a medium sized field of carrots, they share the carrots but don't get babies and don't get love hearts.

Comment by moonshine77 [ 25/Jan/18 ]

Just built my first villager breeder. Saw the same thing – had one baby, but that's it.

UPDATE: I take it back. Something does seem off about villager generation, but in the end I can get 10 or so after adding tons of doors.

Comment by Austin [ 03/Dec/17 ]

I have all the same problems as George Lew. Made three new spawning areas, they breed once and they are done.

Comment by George Lew [ 30/Nov/17 ]

UPDATE as of Dec 4, 2017: After quit/saving out for a day or so, upon relogging and terraforming for a few hours, I noticed that the villagers started to breed as intended, and have been breeding successfully for a day or two. So the breeding issue seemed to be fixed, but today my named and traded breeding villagers have both vanished again, but the door observing villager is still present which is a different issue.

This is still happening on Bedrock, Win 10, 1.2.5, SSP world created new after 1.2.3 update.
Issue: After producing ONE baby, Villagers do not breed again.

To reproduce:
1. Create a glass encased 9x9 potato field, with door sensing villager in mine cart above viewing 15 doors.
2. Allow potatoes to fully grow.
3. Insert 1 brown coat and 1 white coat villager.
3. Name tagged all 3 villagers.
4. Throw potatoes to brown coat until he will not take any more (8 full stacks)
5. Trade with each villager to induce hearts.

Villagers breed and produce one baby. Baby exits area through trapdoors and will grow to adult, then is moved away via mine cart and rails more than 64 blocks from the edge of the farm. In survival, villagers do not breed again. Under creative, villagers do breed more.
Brown coat villager will partially harvest when first introduced to farm, but will not farm entire field and will not harvest continually on his own, but this may be a different issue.

I too am having difficulty with an iron golem farm with infinite villager breeding. The breeding worked perfectly for a while and then just stopped. It is as though the village census is not updating or it is calculating incorrectly or it is using a different village range than the standard 9 blocks. I have tried various things. There are no doors for at least 200 blocks, the villagers have loads of food and I trade with quite a few therefore a fault in the census is the only thing I can think of now. I have even removed all the villagers from the golem spawn area and yet the golems still spawn when they shouldn't which makes me think the census it at fault or MCPE just works differently from the console edition. I don't really want to kill off all my carefully selected trade villagers just to make a point but I'll have to cure zombies from now on I think.

Comment by Sarah [ 10/Mar/17 ]

I am still having trouble with this in Windows 10 version 1.0.4. I have two villagers and 20 doors. Both villagers were converted from zombies spawned after the 1.0.4 update. I traded with both villagers and I gave both of them 12 beets. Either trading or giving food should make them willing to breed. And there should be room for five more villagers with the current number of doors. I have observed the villagers for a week of game time and they never appeared to go into love mode.

Comment by Zeb [ 01/Mar/17 ]

MrCREEPA, villagers will only breed under certain conditions, and as far as the moderation team can tell, this bug has been fixed, and villagers DO breed after all conditions are met. See the wiki for more info: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Villager

Also, keep in mind that due to bugs in previous versions, some villagers who spawned in old versions, or were converted from zombie villagers from older versions, may lack the adult component group, and therefore be unable to breed. Unfortunately these older villagers can't really be fixed retroactively, so if you have any villagers like this, then they're probably broken forever. New villagers from 1.0.4.1 (1.0.4 beta build 2) onward should work as intended.

Comment by MrCreepa [ 24/Feb/17 ]

Does anyone have the solution?

Comment by MrCreepa [ 24/Feb/17 ]

This affects version 1.0.4.0

Comment by Greg Stout [ 23/Feb/17 ]

This issues was resolved in 1.00 along with villagers not growing up but it has since regressed and now they do not breed.

Comment by [MCPE Mod] Dr.Awesome4333 [ 21/Feb/17 ]

Taken from MCPE-20118
I can confirm that naturally spawned Villagers do breed in 1.0.4.0. Tested by taking a seed I knew to have a village (although the village is a not near spawn) and went to the village. There were 3 adult villagers and 1 baby. I added doors where there were doors missing and also added extras to bring the total up to 20 doors. I traded 2 times and I killed 2 villagers with lava leaving 2 adult librarians. I let them wander for a while but no longer than a day and then trapped them in 2x2 space and threw a stack of potatoes at each, with in a minute there where hearts and a baby villager came out. This test was done on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Android 5.0.2 on MCPE 1.0.4.0

Comment by Andy Mittok [ 16/Feb/17 ]

Unfortunately, normal breeding (with any 2 villagers) still impossible. And zombie villagers spawned in my world are common grey (not pink) clothes, so no chance to make a pink priest villager (
1.0.4

Comment by Andy Mittok [ 11/Feb/17 ]

Got 2 pink villagers breeding. Both of them must be pink (priests?). So ironic. Please test if possible. Thank you. 1.0.3 survival hard mode.

Yes, I am having the same problem

JRTasel: By floor I meant mathematical floor function

> Is anyone able to see if villager reputation is at fault, or a way to see what doors are active from within MCPE?
That requires a debug screen which only Mojangsta have. I gave my speculation (which is actually the same as yours) to them but have not heard anything yet.

Comment by Tasel [ 24/Jan/17 ]

Pho - the 0.35*n formula is for the max villagers population, not the floor. From my understanding there is no minimum required for villager breeds so long as the cap has not been reached.

That being said, the limited space recognizing houses could account for the cap to being reached by only a couple villagers. 5 doors would have a max of just 2-3 Villagers. The only countrary evidence to this is that I was able to breed previously (in 1.0) and then they stopped. I still have two Villagers in the same area as before (the baby ones escaped and then died by zombies). The number of doors have not changed. But for some reason now they refuse to breed even with food. Is anyone able to see if villager reputation is at fault, or a way to see what doors are active from within MCPE?

Comment by DenisSilva [ 17/Jan/17 ]

They are breeding but need food to do it. I gave them some bread and now they are more than 10 villagers. At least this works for me

Comment by PHO [ 16/Jan/17 ]

While testing this a bit more, I started to have suspicion that the area villagers recognize houses is smaller than expected. They are supposed to recognize valid houses within sixteen blocks along both horizontal axes, and up to three blocks above or five blocks below the level of the ground the villager is standing on (See Housing). However starting from 0.16 the recognition area seems to be much smaller than that, probably only within 2 or 3 blocks around them are recognized, and thus most of the valid houses are not counted as a part of village... until the population grows and you have many villagers to recognize houses. The population cap of a village is floor(0.35 * n) where n is the number of valid houses so this can explain why they don't breed until a certain population is reached.

Comment by Amberlin Kosbiel [ 15/Jan/17 ]

this affects win10 btw, on my survival map I've isolated my last 5 ( I started with 8) villagers they are contained with a food plot and I still have a farmer. the wheat grows and now he lets it stand so I'm guessing they are all full. I did throw them over 2 stacks of bread. I had a total of 56 valid doors around them , I even tore them down waited 15 min then rebuilt them ... still nothing happens I will try curing some zombies , but I'm hesitant to reopen this world until a fix is posted I don't want to lose any more villagers before they can start replenishing themselves.

Comment by Tasel [ 14/Jan/17 ]

I had villagers breeding until couple of them died. Looks like the reputation of the village goes down and at that point they stop breeding. Then as some always die, they eventually all will be gone.

We need a way to increase the reputation to bring back up the value so they can start breeding again. On PC this is done by trading, but that isn't an option on PE.

Note: I am giving wheat to the villagers and have plent of valid houses, and it work initially, but after the deaths no amount of food would allow them to breed. Also my first successful breeding session was after curing two zombie villagers so the minimum number value doesn't seem to be applicable or at least there's some other variable.

Comment by PHO [ 13/Jan/17 ]

On 1.0 they do breed. Only rarely or under unknown circumstances. As far as I can confirm they breed if any or all of the following conditions are met, otherwise they don't enter the "love mode" or they do but stop making love before actually spawning babies:

  • The population of the village is at least 5 (or 6?).
  • The structure of village (doors and blocks) are built after having villagers hanging around.
  • They have food in their inventory (as expected).

created a new survival world the day of the 1.0.0 launch , and there still not breeding ... hope this gets a fix soon!

Comment by [Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay Wells) [ 02/Dec/16 ]

Reopening - Villagers don't appear to be breeding at all still as of 1.0 beta build 3.

Comment by LLOYDII DELA Cruz [ 23/Nov/16 ]

0.17.0.1 and 0.17.0.2 villagers do not breed ...

Comment by Sarah Dunlap [ 18/Nov/16 ]

Will we have to wait until the release of version 0.17.0.1 before the issue is resolved on our devices? Or will a patch be available for version 0.16?

Comment by Sarah Dunlap [ 11/Nov/16 ]

Please, fix this bug! I want to start a new survival world, but there's no point. The villagers won't breed and they despawn, while I'm building.

Comment by John S. [ 22/Oct/16 ]

Still affects 0.16.0

Comment by Jorge Serrato [ 11/Oct/16 ]

Has anyone seen the video to see the bug?

Comment by Jorge Serrato [ 10/Oct/16 ]

You wrote the same ticket. I have made a video to showcase the bug.

Comment by Jorge Serrato [ 09/Oct/16 ]

This bug is still present on the latest beta. Villagers do not breed. Do you need a video to Co firm this bug is real?
