[MCPE-13976] MCPE 0.14.0 Crashes upon joining server Created: 21/Mar/16  Updated: 21/Aug/17  Resolved: 21/Aug/17

Status: Resolved
Project: Minecraft (Bedrock codebase)
Component/s: None
Affects Version/s: 0.14.0
Fix Version/s: None

Type: Bug
Reporter: Alex Cimitile
Resolution: Cannot Reproduce Votes: 1
Labels: None

Confirmation Status: Unconfirmed
Platform: Phone - iOS - iPhone 4S

 Description

(Note: I have verified this with two of my friends, and my iPad.)
Upon joining a server (my server included but not specifically), players will almost immediately crash to their home screen, following a black screen. It will download the world, and will be able to locate the server. However, it only crashes when the loading process is complete. The server appears online, with the green marker indicating it is on.
(I cannot attach a screenshot, as it immediately crashes to the home screen when I load the servers.) The devices that I have tested this on are as follows:
iPhone 5s
iPhone 4
iPad Mini 2
iPad Air 2
iPod Touch 4

The iPhone 5s and iPad Air 2 were the only ones able to successfully connect before crashing.

I am able to reproduce this bug by joining most MCPE servers on most devices (the ones listed above).
These servers are not just limited to my servers, but others too.
You can use one of my professionally hosted MCPE servers as an example. It's IP with the subdomain is wpf.mcpro.co:30907

I stumbled upon this bug after attempting to join a friends server.
A few days later, I purchased a server through a reputable minecraft server hosting company.
Following me submitting a support ticket to them on the matter, they said that "Unfortunately we've had this type of issue reported before on some devices. Sometimes reinstalling the app works, however once someone begins experiencing the problem we do not know of a definitive fix for it. This is an issue with the PocketEdition app itself, and would need to be reported to the developers."

This ticket has been resolved as 'Cannot Reproduce' as it has not been updated recently (1 year+)

Does this issue still affect 0.14.3?

Verify what your network's NAT type is. I have had issues with minecraft servers but it happend due to my network settings. If your NAT type is strict or moderate, check your network settings when it comes to interrupt moderation and flow control and describe what you have it on.

@Alex Cimitile The developers can see it here on the bug tracker, but if you want, you can contact them on Twitter.

@Kaleb Wasmuth
How would I bring this issue to the attention of the developers?

Comment by kaleb418 [ 31/Mar/16 ]

@Alex Cimtile Ok, just let the developers test for it, then.

@Kaleb Wasmuth
@Kyle Bartush
This bug still persists on newer devices, with clear memory caches.

Comment by kaleb418 [ 28/Mar/16 ]

If the above is true, then this bug is resolved as Invalid.

Alex Cimitile yes this happens to me on my I pod touch 5g and my Samsung and both of them have low memory. Deleting unnecessary apps and getting more memory for the device fixes the issue for me.

@Kaleb Wasmuth
Hm. I have a feeling that it has to do with the memory of the devices.
Okay. I'm going to look into this further.

@Mega_Spud @Alex Cimitile I have tested this on three iOS devices and cannot reproduce it on any of them. Alex, there isn't a specific area for iOS, but you can select the device and operating system version when creating/editing tickets.

Cordyanza No, the developers look into bugs for all supported platforms here though . You've added the details in the description, just have to wait and see if there's any feedback from the moderators or developers now. ☺

@Mega_Spud
Is there an IOS specific branch of this bug reporting forums?

Comment by [Mojang] Mega_Spud (Jay Wells) [ 26/Mar/16 ]

I've had no similar trouble connecting to servers on android or with Windows 10. Perhaps it's peculiar to iOS.

I would leave this to the developers to look into on here, and I suggest you also try making a post on the MCPE subreddit to see if you get any further help there.

Regards,
Mega

@Kaleb Wasmuth
I am not the only person reporting this issue.
If necessary I get get testimonies from my friends who are also experiencing this issue
In my opinion, the majority of people playing mcpe are not mature enough to know how to upload a bug report (no offense)
Please look into this matter further.

@Alex Cimitile The developers can't do anything with this bug unless there is a way to reproduce it.

Judging by the fact that this bug has not been mass-reported, it hasn't been affecting very many people. It must then be caused by either an external software or an actual bug. In order to verify that it is an actual bug, we need a way to replicate it.

@Kaleb Wasmuth What is the next course of action?

Comment by Alex Cimitile [ 25/Mar/16 ]

@Kaleb Wasmuth I did not.

Comment by kaleb418 [ 25/Mar/16 ]

@Alex Cimitile Did you use any external app or software that manipulates the game prior to first seeing this bug?

Comment by kaleb418 [ 25/Mar/16 ]

@moataz gamer Please create a different ticket to report a bug not related to this page. Thank you.
