UPDATE by SuperGeniusZeb: Still affects cauldrons as of 0.17.0.2. (Also occurs with potions and water bottles.) Fixed for just placing water/lava in the world, though. Whenever you place water or lava in creative, the water/lava bucket you use is not consumed (as expected) but an empty bucket is returned and eventually fills up your inventory. Steps to reproduce:
What I expected: |

Partially fixed in 0.17.0.2. Still occurs when filling cauldrons... also just discovered it happens with potions/water bottles, too. |

Confirmed for 0.15.1 alpha build 1. Also, in creative mode, filling cauldron with potion and water bucket or drinking potion, will give you an empty bottle and empty bucket. |

gatharian, that's because water/lava buckets are non-stackable unlike empty ones. See http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Water#Water_Bucket |

What's really strange is in creative you don't get 64 of the water buckets like you do with other items and every time you empty out a bucket; it gives you an additional empty bucket each time. |
