 Description

Villagers are supposed to remain within 32 blocks of a village. Currently, they wander off away from the village into the wild, resulting in ghost villages even after manual repopulation.

I have found several villagers in the wild, see screenshots.

In multiple seeds my villagers RARELY seek a door when night comes. They just mill about outside the houses waiting for zombies to come get them. The village center seems to be WAY off as villagers tend to congregate well outside the village nowhere near houses or valid doors. This causes the village center to shift well beyond what should be the triangulated center of the valid doors. I end up with a cluster of villagers up against the fence in the corner of my village far from houses and doors.

I lost 3 villagers today because a block got placed next to a fence (had to be an Enderman) and before I knew it and could fix it, they ran out into the world never to be seen again.

Fixed in 1.0.4.0.

Affecting 1.0.3.0 (villagers tend to slowly, but surely leave the village and wander off elsewhere).

Comment by Les Voss [ 23/Jan/17 ]

Since version 1.0 MCPE it is impossible to keep villagers alive in a village. Even with multiple fences containing them, the villagers-even in peaceful modefind a way to leave or possibly despawn? I have seen very very few children-no many how many doors and food are available, the villagers seldom (once in a hundred hours of playing in a village) have I seen villagers reproduce. Please guide me how to move back to a version before 1.0 until this can be resolved .,

It affects MCPE for iOS in versions 1.0 and 1.0.1 as well as Win10 Edition 1.0. Tested in different worlds and different villages. The only fix to prevent them from villagers wandering far is to put a wall around the village. Also the villagers won't breed at all, building houses inside the walled village proved ineffective in increasing the number of villagers.

Tested this in MCPE 1.0. Iron Golems, Villagers and even add ons that use: minecraft:behavior.move_through_village also just wander off. Have tested with both a seed that had several villages and a flat world with a village I created.

Still happens. Not fixed

Comment by Kelly Green [ 26/Oct/16 ]

I noticed this in my world that was started pre-0.16.0, and continues still after the update. They continue to wander/disappear.

Comment by Shannon [ 18/Oct/16 ]

Oh ok its reopened? Thanks.

Affects 0.15.90.8 and 0.15.10 according to MCPE-17519.

i have a cave under my village i notice villagers will go in the cave and repopulate there but not always go back to the homes at night. O_o apparently my villagers are cave men

Still happening for me on 0.15.3.
My villagers all wandered off. I thought they may have despawned or been killed while I was exploring a long way away but have tried in a new world and loose villagers quickly. I didn't find any outside of the village.

I am experiencing the same issue on Android in version 0.15.3. Villagers are wandering hundreds of blocks away and not being able to find their way back even after dark. My vibrant village is now left with one farmer...

Device: OnePlus 3

Comment by Caleb [ 24/Jul/16 ]

same here also hard to keep a village with the other bug because now villagers either 1. run away from the village or 2. vanish because of the other bug

Comment by Paul Laska [ 24/Jul/16 ]

I have also seen this issue on Windows 10 Beta Edition in version 0.15.2. I found the village, took up residence, and over the course of a few day/night cycles, noticed the villagers wandering farther and farther away from the village. Sometimes I would find them in the caves near the village, running around next to skeletons and creepers.

Comment by Robert Carnevali [ 19/Jun/16 ]

I'm glad I found this listed. I've seen this behavior on the Windows 10 edition. Gradually, more and more villagers just wander away from the village. You can see them standing out in fields and gradually moving further away. At night time, the ones within the village will go into their homes. The ones too far away will walk around but won't return to the village, gradually moving further away instead. After several nights, you're left with an empty village.

I enjoy having the villagers around and think it adds a lot to the game. I'd love to see it resolved because at the moment, villages become useless after several nights.

According to MCPE-15193 this still affects 0.15.0 b2 and apparently Iron Golems are also affected by this bug.

Comment by Anomonous Anomonous [ 20/May/16 ]

Still affects 0.14.3 . Might be because there is a stronghold near the village.

Comment by kaleb418 [ 14/May/16 ]

Confirmed 0.14.2 on iOS 9.3 iPhone 5s.

Comment by Ramon [ 14/May/16 ]

This still affects Minecraft Windows 10 Edition Beta Version: 0.14.2 The Villagers still leave the Villages and never come back.

Comment by Anomonous Anomonous [ 03/Apr/16 ]

Happens on my world. They even walk into caves... At night time instead of the villagers going back to the village and going inside a house , they just stand there.... Maybe the radius of the village is too big , or there is no check if they are too far away from the village or not.

Comment by theraptorhynchus [ 24/Mar/16 ]

OK, the ghost towns are probably not caused by this.

But I confirm this bug definitely happens (for Samsung Galaxy Note 0.14.0), because I spawned into a brand new world, and soon after the Villagers were just leaving the Village I found.

I think it's more likely to be the effects of this bug causing the abandoned villages: MCPE-8002
