 Description

When you place a torch on the floor if there is a wall next to the floor block, the torch will go onto the wall.

I expected the torch to place on the floor.

The torch placed on the wall.

How to reproduce
1. Build a tower 1 block wide and 2 blocks high.

2. Build the same tower 1 block away from it

3. Build on more tower the same size so that the corners of the towers are touching. Aerial view:

4. Place a torch on the floor between the towers.

Comment by Tyler [ 15/Apr/13 ]

I hate this bug, it just gives me TOTAL OCD when I light up a tunnel or light up a tight space

Comment by kevin chau [ 11/Apr/13 ]

worst bug i can possibly find

Comment by zach [ 04/Apr/13 ]

Mojang, can you PLEASE fix this in 7.0?

Comment by Patrick Andersen [ 12/Mar/13 ]

Don, PC Edition was done the same way. If you don't like playing an alpha version, don't play it. But don't bash on the Mojang team. Making a mobile app this complex takes a lot of work, especially with so many devices to support.

Comment by Don Milton [ 12/Mar/13 ]

This BUG happens consistantly in any mode (Creative or Survival) and happens on any Android OS version (I have personally confirmed this on Android OS 2.3, 4.0, and 4.1.2) on any device Phone or Tablet. This bug did not exist in 0.5.0. This bug only affects torch placement. Ladders and signs are NOT affected in the same way at all. This needs to be fixed. I have (in previous versions) been able to place torches in a single block corridor on alternate wall sides and on the top of blocks and now it does not work. Why are we paying $6.99 for a product that is still in Alpha Testing? Mojang has borked software developement for everyone! I am sorry that I do not have to pay for updates. But still keep the improvements coming. It is unacceptable that bugs like this happen and you release it. New players are expected to pay for THIS? Why should they? If it was possible, I would ask for a refund! Or you can pay me to Alpha test this and give me a free version when it is out of Beta!

to fix it all u have to do is destroy the block next to where u want to place the torch and it will be all goods and then put the block back i think its just because of the signs or something i dunno i hope it will get fixed in next update

Comment by Ethan Smith [ 27/Feb/13 ]

I really hope they are fixing this! It happens on my DROID 4 and DROID RAZR and iPod Touch 5G

Another example: in a narrow corridor, place a torch on a wall. Half the time it is placed on the other wall.

This bug is a real pain when it comes to building your house, and you cant place torches where you want.

Comment by John Robert Strebeck [ 07/Feb/13 ]

When I make stairs to my mine its the same

Some form of this bug has existed for a long time. It used to be rare and unpredictable, but starting with 0.6.0 it has become much more common and predictable.

The corner issue again: Torches were attempted to be placed on the west facing surfaces, but landed on the north and south facing surfaces instead.

The corner issue: The torches were attempted to be placed on the east facing surface, but landed on on the north and south facing surfaces instead.

The one block wide space issue again: The torches were attempted to be placed on the west and north facing surfaces, but landed on the opposite sides.

The one block wide space issue: The torches were attempted to be placed on the west and north facing surfaces, but went to the opposite facing surfaces.

Comment by Richard Perry [ 04/Feb/13 ]

I also experience this bug. It seems as though anytime there is an additional block surface within 1 block distance then torch placement is unpredictable.

Comment by Scott Webster [ 04/Feb/13 ]

There are two different issues with torch placement. One is with placing them in corners, the other is with placing them in one block wide spaces. Both are directional. I'm judging direction by the 2x2 light colored block on the top of a stone block being toward the west. In corners, the torches will only go on north or south facing surfaces. In one block wide spaces, torches will only go on east and north facing surfaces. If you attempt to place one on one of the surfaces they won't go on, they will sort of ricochet off and land on the other surface. I'm attaching screen shots.

It is weird how it comes now. Did they even change torches?

Comment by ayden1232 [ 03/Feb/13 ]

This is a very weird bug, I get it on all my devices with Minecraft PE. But I seem to have found a temporary fix.

What you do is: Break the block you want to put the torch on, then replace it, now try placing the torch.

Sadly, this only works when your trying to place it on a WALL at a corner and it moves to the other wall.

Comment by Zach Hammitt [ 02/Feb/13 ]

I am having this same glitch on android.

Comment by Joan Sheldon [ 02/Feb/13 ]

Just updated to 0.6.1. Cannot get torches in a 1-block-wide tunnel to stick to the wall side I place them on. I usually put torches on the right side going into a tunnel for orientation, but they end up in front or on the left even though the right wall was tapped.

Comment by mhz snt [ 02/Feb/13 ]

Confirmed on 0.6.1 and Android. I can't place now torches on ground as I'm usually digging in a 1 block wide space and waiting for bedrock to place a torch. Also, something is wrong with placing torches on dirt, most of the times digging in a 1 block wide space I can place only on stone. Please fix that in 0.6.2 or something...

Comment by Mint [ 01/Feb/13 ]

This annoys the freaking CRAP out of me! It will only place in one direction! WHY! I can literally completely face the wall and place it there and it will place it BEHIND me! >:o

Comment by Patrick Andersen [ 01/Feb/13 ]

It's because they have a heirarchy of sides, and they try to attach to sides in that order. Usually, your cursor overrides the hierarchy, and it only changes sides if you try to place it on a block it can't be placed on.

Comment by Benjamin Aprile [ 01/Feb/13 ]

I noticed it as well, the torch seems to pick a wall and stick with it too. I've repeatedly tried to swap sides in a 1 block wide tunnel and it always placed on the left.

Comment by Ben Decker [ 31/Jan/13 ]

I've seen that bug too. So annoying!

Comment by Patrick Andersen [ 30/Jan/13 ]

I added some screenshots. They were taken right in a row. The crosshair was not moved, all I did was place the torch.

Comment by Patrick Andersen [ 30/Jan/13 ]

Confirmed. Also, if you build the towers and try to place the torch on any of the walls, it will default to one wall in particular, no matter which one you tried to place it on.
