 Description

If you name an item like a brewing stand, place it, then mine it and look in your hot bar, the custom name is gone.

Steps to reproduce

  • Name an item that is placeable using an anvil.
  • Place the item down. (i.e. Enchantment table, Bed, Brewing stand, etc.)
  • In survival use a pickaxe to pick up the item.
  • Notice how the name of the item you just picked up now has the default name (i.e. Enchantment table, Bed, Brewing stand, etc.)

Fixed in 1.2.3.3.

I think this is actually to do with mining the block, not the anvil, because using pick-block will still give you the block along with its custom name

This also happens on any platform which has the anvil

This existed since 12w41a

This affects all blocks/block entities that were re-named.

This bug has been reported to our internal bug tracker for further testing and a fix. It is scheduled to be fixed in one of the future updates (no specific date can be provided).

In the latest PC snapshot version 16w35a, renamed containers/block entities keep their names when placed and broken.

Confirmed for 0.15.0. (Tested on Windows 10.) I think that blocks with tile/block entities should maintain their name when placed and broken. (The Tile/Block Entity could store the name of the block while it is in block form and when broken it would transfer the name to the item dropped.) I don't think this would be possible with blocks like crafting tables or cobblestone, which don't use block entities.

This is also known as MC-2384, so it "works as intended". However, it's true that the game would be better if this behaviour was removed.

can confirm this in 0.14.0 released version

(RE: rplatham) yes it is If they are placed and it stays named in your inventory, as well as if you drop it (not place it) only placing it will remove the name

Comment by Torben Schamborski [ 08/Dec/15 ]

I can confirm this...
I have tested it with Chest's, Doors, Enchantment Tabel, furnace, brewing stand. I have renamed the items, placed the items and mined the items. After this the items lost there custom name.

Device
Samsung Galaxy Note3
Android 5.0

MCPE 0.13.0

I will test it on my tablet soon....

Items that are placed (as opposed to dropped) into the world will not have their unique names when they are mined again.

Michael, please confirm you placed the brewing stand and mined it again and the custom name was lost, rather than you renamed it, put it in your inventory, moved it to your hotbar and the custom name was lost.
