| Description |
|
We have a desktop and a laptop computer. After upgrading to 0.13.0 the application crashes after the Mojang logo on the laptop. The laptop uses a Geforce GT 540M chip, graphics drivers are up-to-date. We have Windows 10 (TH2 or 10586) with the latest updates installed. It worth to note that the previous version (0.12.x) worked fine with no crash. The Windows Event Log contains the crash described in the attached .txt file. If I can help debug the issue, please let me know how can I help. Thank you! |

I can add my support to verifying that it does work now. |

After some extensive testing I haven't had any issues running MC Win 10 anymore. So, at least for me, this bug is fixed. |

|
kaleb418 Nope. This morning the store still said 0.14.0, but I had an update, and in game it said 0.14.1. As of now, the store should say 0.14.1 as well. |
| Comment by kaleb418 [ 04/Apr/16 ] |
|
@BlazeFaia Did you mean 0.14.0? I don't believe 0.14.1 is out yet. |
| Comment by BlazeFaia [ 04/Apr/16 ] |
|
As of today, with 0.14.1, I was able to load into Minecraft successfully thrice. I suggest everyone having issues try again. Please report if it still doesn't work on your end. Assuming everyone else can connect. I'd request this bug stay open for at least 3 more days for extensive testing. I'll try opening the game in different environments (Ie different applications running, opening the game minimized, etc) and report back if I have any issues. |

For info, my kid's laptop was unable to play this Minecraft version also with an Optimus System (NVS 4200M) http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/100872/en-us |
| Comment by Lévai Marcell [ 27/Mar/16 ] |
|
It's been like this for months. Will the game ever get fixed, or stay in unplayable state for Nvidia Optimus users? |
| Comment by Julian [ 10/Mar/16 ] |
|
i have this problem on 0.14 too. I cant start minecraft if my laptop is connected to a tv. |
| Comment by Andreas Eide [ 23/Feb/16 ] |
|
It's the same for me. |

As I have said previously, 0.12.x worked fine, yet 0.13.x and 0.14.x don't work. 0.13.0's changelog inscluded something about muc hsmoother graphics. I believe this needs to be reverted for Nvidia graphics drivers to work properly. |
| Comment by BlazeFaia [ 23/Feb/16 ] |
|
Ah. Sorry for the frustration. It's been a while since I've been able to play. I've been more active in /r/MCPE in my concerns however. I'll repeat what I said there if it's of any help. "I can, with 99% certainty say it's an Nvidia Optimus Technology issue. And it's not the first game to not play nice with Optimus. A lot of "fixes" involved disabling the Nvidia graphics chip and using the Intel one or temporarily updating the drivers. But one thing I'm certain of is, despite it being related to Nvidia I don't think it's something that can be resolved with an Nvidia driver update as the issues return within a few days even without preforming another update. I wish I could offer more information than that, but if you're not already looking into Optimus as a source of the problem I'd recommend doing so." |
| Comment by AMAN4700 [ 23/Feb/16 ] |
|
Sorry BlazeFaia, I saw people saying it was fixed so I resolved this. It is now reopen. |
| Comment by BlazeFaia [ 23/Feb/16 ] |
|
What? This is most certainly NOT resolved by any stretch of the imagination. Minecraft Win 10 Edition still crashes on startup. Am I just supposed to pretend like everything's fine and just never play this game again? That's just not right. |
| Comment by Shawn [ 18/Feb/16 ] |
|
MCWin10 updated today and it's fixed! Thank you so much devs! My Nvidia drivers never updated but it's cool since the game works now. |
| Comment by Chris Jones [ 16/Feb/16 ] |
|
Newest nVidia driver fixed it for me as well. System has a GeForce GT675M, and previously I had to use Device Manager to disable the nVidia and leave only the Intel GPU enabled. |
| Comment by Nip351 [ 16/Feb/16 ] |
|
Nvidia drivers released yesterday fixed this for me, verion 361.91. My previous fix was to go to Device Manager and disable m Nvidia card only, no rebooting required. Then I could get into W10 Minecraft. Once I was done playing I could go back to Device manager and re-enable it, all without rebooting/restarting. Edit: |

361.43 worked for me, but then I updated to 361.75 and it stopped working again. |

ak You might want to wait until 0.14.0 is out to see if these issues were resolved. |

No update for 7900gs, being solved by Nvidia is the last thing i wanted. |
| Comment by BlazeFaia [ 07/Feb/16 ] |
|
Don't relax just yet. Nvidia has updated multiple times and this issue has been "fixed" multiple times. Until a few days later when it happens again and you have to update your Nvidia drivers again. I don't want this bug to be marked as resolved only for it to pop up again a few days later because it's more than likely not something Nvidia can fix. I feel it has something to do with the most recent drivers available. Which is a problem when they update every other day. |
| Comment by Christian Kolling [ 07/Feb/16 ] |
|
Confirmed |
| Comment by Szabolcs Molnár [ 07/Feb/16 ] |
|
And it works! It was solved by Nvidia after all, but whatever. Which matters is that we can finally play the game. Hopefully others also can confirm this. |
| Comment by Jamie Douglass [ 07/Feb/16 ] |
|
I also restarted my laptop with the graphics driver on to see if changing any settings in the Nvidia Control Panel makes it work... and it just works! Which is excellent news. |
| Comment by Szabolcs Molnár [ 07/Feb/16 ] |
|
Oh that's great news. Will try as soon as the laptop finishes downloading updates. |

I have updated the graphic card's driver and it's work |
| Comment by Szabolcs Molnár [ 06/Feb/16 ] |

The same with 0.13.2. It's a disappointment since we can't play the game since november and the devs didn't even say once that "okay, it's a valid issue". Too bad that when people can't even start the application they paid for is not a valid issue. Anyway, my offer still stays: if I can help anything in debugging the issue, please don't hesitate to let us know. I am (probably "we are" here) eager to help, so if we can do anything specific to help to get rid of this issue, don't hold back. Thanks. |

I have a similar issue but disabling graphics card makes no difference, there is nothing, it just doesn't start up. |
| Comment by Shawn [ 22/Jan/16 ] |
|
I'm not 100% sure but here is some information I found that could possibly aid the developers in solving this problem. |

Same thing on Geforce 540M (optimus). Works fine if I disable the device. I opened a thread on the microsoft side: |
| Comment by Jamie Douglass [ 18/Jan/16 ] |
|
At least for me, if Nvidia GeForce is not running, you can still run Minecraft on your graphics. I did that by turning the Nvidia graphics OFF, restarting your computer, turning then back ON, and then running it (do NOT restart, otherwise it will load GeForce on startup). However, I am still not going to blame Nvidia. The real fix is for Microsoft to spend some time changing back whatever they changed between 0.12.* and 0.13.*. The changelog for 0.13.0 says "Block lag should be significantly reduced. Everything should feel more responsive now". And I'm not a graphics genius, but that would put some strain on it. Maybe that is the issue? |
| Comment by Shawn [ 13/Jan/16 ] |
|
I think ultimately Microsoft needs to fix the thing they broke or NVIDIA needs to update their drivers. My current and latest available drivers are from February 2015 and when I look for new ones the latest OS option is Windows 8. I think secretly they all just want people to buy new hardware even though a lot of older systems are still fine and capable. Grrr |
| Comment by Jamie Douglass [ 13/Jan/16 ] |
|
I am also having the issue. As people have said, going into device manager and disabling the Nvidia graphics driver works fine. I tried setting the default graphics card for windows 10 beta to the integrated graphics through Nvidia Control Panel, but it still crashed after that. Maybe it's just the presence of the Nvidia card. However, this is still Microsoft's fault. And this should definitely be fixed. |

The version of this problem which is happening to nVidia mobile GPUs has nothing to do with refresh rate or screen resolution. It has something to do with the transitioning from a low power non-gaming GPU to the power hungry nVidia GPU. My GT 675M (in an MSI GT70 0ND laptop) also has an Intel graphics chip which is used for everything 2D, and some games initially detect that and tell me it's inadequate, but then work fine whenever 3D kicks in and the 675M actually takes over. This game seems stumped by that, and at one time it worked fine. How do I know this has anything to do with it? Well, if I go into Device Manager and disable the 675M completely, it never tries to make that GPU switch, stays with the Intel GPU the whole time, and the game then actually works fine (NO CRASH) other than not getting the benefit of the better GPU for better frame rates and visual effects. Re-enable the 675M and try again, and it crashes every single time. In some other message board other nVidia mobile GPU users chimed in with the same result. In my case I've never used another monitor – same 17" monitor that's always been built into the laptop, and I've even done a full hard drive format / OS clean install since this started happening with no improvement. |
| Comment by rplatham [ 11/Jan/16 ] |
|
jocopa3 did your screen resolution and/or refresh rate change when you got the new monitor? Others, perhaps try changing the screen resolution and/or refresh rate to see what happens. Just guessing, but as you can see, there haven't been many ideas, so I thought I'd try. |

I have also been having this same problem since Windows 10 had a big update. I have Windows 10 Home 64-bit with GeForce 7050 / nForce 620i, DirectX runtime 11.0 (9.0c supported) with Driver version 309.08. Processor is Pentium(R) Dual-Core E5400 @ 2.70GHz with 4.00 GB RAM. |

0.13.1 has not resolved this issue. It is odd though every once in a blue moon it will load an play then the other 99.9% of the time we just get the Mojang splash screen and crash. |

I had a very similar bug for quite some time ( |

With reference to my last comment: After a typical Win10 crash (sound card drivers) I was forced to reboot. Result: Not working anymore (unless I disable the nVidia GeForce GT540M). |

Nope, still does not work for me, sadly. |

Nick, It seems to work for me. I had the nVidia Geforce GT540M disabled, then I enabled it and the game still works. Hopefully it stays that way after I reboot my PC |

My copy of Windows 10 just had a major update this morning and afterwards it seems this game is working again. Can anyone else verify? |

Please avoid flaming and blaming developers. We are looking into all issues and can't address all of them right away. This was submitted for testing and fix if we find a reason. Once again - this is not a forum, please limit your comments to relevant information to the posted issue. |

Why is this a laptop specific problem is my question? Are drivers are on laptops significantly different from desktops? Every desktop in my house is running the game just fine. All of the desktops run NVIDIA, only my laptop is not functioning right and only with this game.. (disabling my graphics card everytime and losing my dual monitors is not a long term fix.) |
| Comment by Szabolcs Molnár [ 04/Dec/15 ] |

Yesterday we installed the recently updated (dec 01) Nvidia driver on the Laptop (Geforce GT 540M). Still no luck, the game still crashes. I have no problem if the game crashes. Just admit it that it's a problem (see the comments, the threads) and look for a fix. If needed, involve the users. We are a plenty of here, and we are happy to help you any way to debug the issue, just tell us what we can do. So my problem is not that the game crashes. My problem is that the devs refusing to accept that it's a valid issue. Even if it would be a problem on Nvidia's part, you can't go with the "okay, our game simply won't work on the majority of the laptops out there". Thank you! |
| Comment by Reymond Dominic Tarlengco [ 04/Dec/15 ] |
|
The driver rollback worked on my laptop (GT 630M), but the updated Nvidia drivers doesn't have issues with other games I play. |

Hi. I have also tried to update to the latest GeForce experience and drivers, without any success. Please give us the possibility to revert to the 0.12 Version of Minecraft so we can play the game again. |

Dear Moderator, dear Mojang dev crew, |

Dean, do you have GeForce experience installed on your PC? If not you may want to download that on Nvidia's website. It gives you the most up to date driver for your PC. |
| Comment by Dean Griffiths [ 26/Nov/15 ] |
|
Dear Mod Thank you for your response. I applicate this is not a discussion forum, and nor should it be. I have already reviewed the link you pointed me towards - this is in fact how I arrived at this site, so nothing new for me there. Having read various comments there and elsewhere - I would suggest that this would be a "Workaround" rather than a solution. As may have said, 0.12.0 works - where as 0.12.0 crashes. This may well be related to NVidia, however - those drivers have not been updated. It is your assumption that my system does not require those drivers, and that I can remove them. Again, as others have said - there doesn't seem to be an option to role back to 0.12.x until this issue is resolved. If you can give me v12 back - then I would be happy. If there is a more formal platform for me to register my grievance - then please let me know |
| Comment by rplatham [ 26/Nov/15 ] |
|
dgriffiths please keep the comments related to details of the bugs. This tool is not a discussion forum. I should add that tickets are no longer assigned in the bug tracker. An alternative solution has been proposed on MinecraftForums which suggests the issue is NVidia's drivers and not MCPE: uninstalled the driver through the "device manager" of windows, restart and let windows install the driver automatically. |
| Comment by Dean Griffiths [ 25/Nov/15 ] |
|
I have to say, I am a little disappointed - although not surprised. Disappointing in the fact, that although an MCPE mod has made updates to this thread - this issue still remains unassigned, suggesting no action is being made. However, that is also the element that doesn't surprise me. It costs nothing for Mojang/Microsoft to at least acknowledge that there is an issue, and it that it will (or not) be looked at. I applicate that we (the 20ish people for have commented in this thread) are just small numbers - but a small acknowledge would possibly prevent people becoming more disillusioned with the product now it is owned by the big almighty Microsoft.,A quick google shows that this issue is widespread, and not limited to the few people who has reported it here, If, as an end user we need to make a "tweak" to something on our end - tell us!!!. If you are working on a fix, tell us !!!! - but as your customer - please don't ignore us !!!!! Mojang/Microsoft - all we ask is for an update!!! |

Disabling the nVidia adapter works. Naturally it would be nicer to use the faster and better GPU, but the Intel HD Graphics works pretty well for Minecraft. Good workaround ZhangYu! Hopefully Mojang (or nVidia) will be able to fix the problem soon. |
| Comment by Nick Bess [ 25/Nov/15 ] |
|
Just confirmed as well, I disabled my nvidia driver and the game suddenly works. This is not an acceptable long term fix, does this need to be addressed by Mojang or Nvidia? |
| Comment by Justyn Hebrock [ 25/Nov/15 ] |
|
This works for me as well! Thank you guys! This is totally acceptable til the fix is up, although the side effect is a lose one of my monitors.. not sure why... |
| Comment by Christopher Conlogue [ 25/Nov/15 ] |
|
This worked for me as well. Once I disabled my Nvidia Quadro, the game launches just fine using onboard graphics. I just keep my Device Manager open so I can re-enable it before any other gaming. It's not ideal, but it works for now, until a more permanent fix comes along. |
| Comment by ZhangYu [ 25/Nov/15 ] |
|
If your laptop has both Nvidia GeForce and Intel(R) HD Graphics, you can go to the device manager (win+r, input devmgmt.msc), and then find display adapter(? I'm not sure this translation, I'm using Chinese version), forbid the Nvidia GeForce. |
| Comment by Justyn Hebrock [ 24/Nov/15 ] |
|
I would be happy if i could just have the 0.12 version back until they fix it, but I can't even find a file to do that. |
| Comment by Justyn Hebrock [ 24/Nov/15 ] |
|
If you ask the Microsoft Support Engineers they just tell you to: Does not help. They seem determined to ignore there is an actual issue that needs fixed. |

Exactly the same error, green screen after Mojong's logo, then the display driver loses response then recovers. |

I have a Lenovo G780 with a NVida GForce GT635M. I installed version 13 and it will crash after about 3-6 seconds on the Majan screen. It worked fine yesterday on the 12.3 version. NVida driver updated yesterday to the latest version (10.18.13.5900) and it ran fine on the 12.3 version. Not sure if needed but Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 driver version 10.18.10.4276. That is the latest driver. |

Same issue as of the 0.13 update. Dell Latitude. I updated all my Nvidia drivers, uninstalled any non crucial software, reset the pc, no avail. ... Also, why cant like google we just revert back to the old version of the app til they fix it...?? And... Other apps and/ or programs have a HUGE delay in opening since the driver update... |

Same problem for me too. Dell Latitude E6430 8Gb. Version 0.12.x worked fine, and the issue started following the automatic update. Version 0.12.x works fine on an identical machine, so will avoid the update - but now means that I can't build with my son. |

Same as the above. Update on the desktop from 0.12.3 to 0.13.0 went smoothly. Updated the laptop so that I could play networked and 0.13.0 crashes at the initial screen. I'm running off a Nvidia NVS 5200M. All drivers are updated. |

Minecraft also fails for me as well, when it was working just fine before the update. Using nVidia Geforce GTX 670m App crash log is below, (if this helps) ----------------- Log Name: Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational " /> &&

Exactly the same as above: six or so seconds of the Mojang splash screen and then back to the desktop. All drivers updated, game uninstalled and reinstalled several times. The game went to this state after the upgrade (0.13.0). It works fine on all my other Win10 machines, but not on my ASUS all-in-one (laptop motherboard and circuitry) with nVidia Geforce GT 540M chip. All drivers updated (inc. graphics, sound and network), all updates installed (Win10). Annoying this is. Solution to this must we find.
