Attempting to type an emoji will result in an immediate crash. This can happen anywhere in which the universal (non-Minecraft app) apple keyboard system is used (signs, chat, world name, world seed, player name).

Fixed in the latest release. Typing an emoji or other invalid character should now input a question mark.

Hehehehe. http://www.macrumors.com/2015/11/18/apple-seeds-fourth-ios-9-2-beta-to-developers/ I guess Illidicia is a developer.

I stand corrected. I was given the wrong info. It is 9.1... updating.

On a Samsung Galaxy S4 Active Android 5.0.1 MCPE 0.13.0 public release, I cannot enter emoji's into the seed. Tested using Samsung Default Keyboard 4.0 (English) and SwiftKey Keyboard 6.0.0.161.

Confirmed on iPhone 6+ iOS 9.1 MCPE 0.13.0.
