@Johan I bet it was... bugs like this make me wish I had a copy of the code to look at. Glad to be able to save you a few minutes of testing, anyway. Keep up the good work, we all really appreciate it!

This was a strange bug, should be fixed in 0.5.0. Thanks for trying it out and explaining it well Do

I've also been under the impression torches have been sporadically vanishing when I break the blocks they are attached too. I had the impression that the torches were falling through the floor (similar to the seed behavior), but I haven't investigated as thoroughly Do.

@Johan, this issue is trickier than it looks, I think. I don't think it has as much to do with the type of block it's attached to as what's around it.

  • If you put a torch on the side of a block where another block is directly beneath the torch, the torch will vanish when the block it is attached to is destroyed.
  • If you put a torch on the top of a block where another block is directly beside the torch, the torch will vanish when the block it is attached to is destroyed.

I tested this with several types of blocks and the materials didn't seem to affect it at all. I only used materials that torches can be placed on, either directly or indirectly, for the "host" block and the adjacent blocks.

Wow, it would be great. The thing is though that I don't see why it would only be one block. If that was the case, could Andrew please post what kind of block the torch was attached to?

@Johan the torch disappears if it was attached to dirt or stone for sure, and also others. It drops if it was attached to something "weird" like a fence, crafting table, or furnace. I'm in the habit of always removing torches before breaking the block they're on so I don't lose them, or I'd be able to give a more thorough list of what they do and don't drop from, but they don't seem to drop from most "normal" materials... If it's useful to you, I'll check everything and make a comprehensive list.

The torch should drop and you should be able to pick it up, it doesn't?

Comment by Andrew Robinson [ 09/Sep/12 ]

It is a bug, my torch is Destroyed. I only have noticed it on the side of stone and smooth brick being the cause.

Comment by Do [ 09/Sep/12 ]

Doesn't apply to fence, crafting table, furnace, and possibly others.

That's not a bug.
