 Description

How to reproduce: create a creative world, hold a Knockback II book, attack a mob and watch it fly.
I expected that the book's enchantment would not be applied to the action.

This bug has been around since long before 0.12.3

It appears that this bug is limited to sharpness, smite, bane of arthropods, knockback, fire aspect, looting and silk touch, but not all enchantment options have been attempted.

While this bug appears innocent and WAI, it can be easily exploited by the player. Some examples:

  • a sharpness V book can be used as an unbreakable sword
  • a fire aspect book means you never need to cook meat
  • a silk touch book can collect all blocks not destroyed when mined by hand
  • a looting book can be used for the final blow to kill a mob and get more loot
Books with multiple strong enchantments compound this exploit quickly.

[MCPE Mod] AMAN- A duplicate of this issue has been resolved (MCPE-9886) so this is probably fixed for a future release. I can not confirm yet.

Tested on:

  • Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 5.0.1 0.12.3 single player survival
  • Asus B121 Tablet Win 10 Pro MCPE 0.12.3 single player survival

Still an issue for 1.2.0.15 - Using a Silk Touch book in survival to break these, will drop as an item:

  • Grass blocks
  • Leaves
  • Vines
  • Dead bush
  • Book shelves
  • Giant mushroom blocks
  • Sea Lanterns
  • Glowstone
  • Glass
  • Coloured Glass

Confirmed to affect 1.1.0.8.

Yup! :/

Still works on 0.16.2 on Windows 10.

Reopened as Silk Touch books are still affected by this bug. To reproduce, break a grass block with a Silk Touch book in survival, see that it drops a grass block, not a dirt block.

It also affects Windows 10 Minecraft Beta v0.15.7 on silk touch enchanted book.

Tested in 0.15.90.7 - Fire Aspect book didn't seem to ignite any mobs, but a silk touch book would work like a silk touch tool.

Confirmed on Samsung Galaxy S6 (SM-G920W8), Android 6.0.1 MCPE 0.16.0 Beta build 1 (v0.15.90.2)

I hit a spider with a knockback II book and in a new creative single player world and the spider received the knockback effect.
