 Description

When I wanted to go to my brother's server through L.A.N. (local area network), no server showed up on my list.

UPDATE: by MissMarzenia
We are aware of this issue and the fact it is not assigned does not mean we are not fixing it. We do not assign issues in Jira to developers anymore.
This is a known issue and it is being looked into. Please comment only if you have bug relevant information and try to be respectful of other people's issues.

UPDATE AND POSSIBLE FIXES by MissMarzenia

  • Be patient, when you open the game, wait a bit before the worlds and LAN worlds appear.
  • Restart the game on both devices. Make sure it is actually turned off and on again.
  • Turn off your WiFi, put the devices into Airplane Mode for 2-3 minutes
  • Triple check that all devices on your network have the same version of MCPE

As you probably already noticed this bug does not occur all the time, this is why it is not easy to reproduce. I hope it will be fixed in next release.

Fixed an an older version of the game (pre-1.16)

Comment by Nathanaël [ 07/Sep/18 ]

Hello.
I have this problème.
But what is " a version of MCPE " ?

Comment by R. Brown [ 28/May/18 ]

Please reopen this issue. It being difficult to reproduce does not make it somehow imaginary. It affects 1.4.2.

Comment by LeeRad [ 30/Jan/18 ]

My issue was somehow fixed a few days ago. I wish to stop receiving email comments from people who have the same issue.

Closing this ticket. For issues relating to WiFi direct, please see MCPE-17461.

Comment by Nantano [ 13/Dec/16 ]

I want to play with my brothers on mcpe with wifi direct but it doesnt work. Bring it back or fix it. But its really boring not playing with people over wifi-direct. I have samsung galaxy tab 3 lite 7.0'' With mcpe 1.0.0.7

Comment by [MCPE Mod] Celesian [ 28/Nov/16 ]

also affects 0.16.2

Comment by A D [ 02/Oct/16 ]

Also happening with v0.15.9

Comment by Kyle Bartush [ 07/Jul/16 ]

Confirmed in 0.15.1 and 0.15.2

Comment by Icode [ 04/Jul/16 ]

Resurgence of this issue may be related to: https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/REALMS-79

After that bug occurs, it breaks the ability to connect to any LAN games as well.

Comment by Mr. Monkey [ 29/Jun/16 ]

when me and my brother want to play lan survival to record it for youtrube in 0.14.3 we used to do it with (the first image) not (the second image) so please fix and get it fixed and when we were connected via (image one) not (image 2)
the worlds do not show up in (0.15.0=) but they did in mcpe (0.14.0-0.14.3)

Comment by Erick D Oldaker [ 20/Jun/16 ]

So this was MY solution to the problem. I posted symptoms on May 31, then found my solution the next day. Posted 1June: Disregard, after looking deeper I found the issue. I had reloaded one tab with a backup from the other as the one had gotten corrupt. Upon that load the MAC had also loaded so caused a duplicate on the net. This had caused SEVERAL other problems with not just the two tablets. Getting into the code and changing that via HEX decoder was able to fix all the issues and they will be happy tomorrow when they are able to join each other's worlds again

Comment by Kyle Bartush [ 19/Jun/16 ]

This happend to me for a LONG time, about two years after we got our new router, I latter found out that our NAT type was strict. Your NAT type could be moderate/strict. I changed the flow control and interupt moderation on my WiFi settings so the NAT type is open, and I suggest you try it as well. See my minecraft forum thread about this: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-discussion/discussion/2666002-fix-for-lan-denying-connection-on-wifi-with

Confirmed on Android devices.

Best way to show up LAN (may not work but try): Add a server with IP 192.168.0.1

Comment by Michael Hewitt [ 27/Feb/16 ]

We are using an iPad Air and an iPad Mini With Retina. Both are running iOS 9.2.1. We purchased and installed the latest version of Minecraft PE (v0.14.0) on both iPads. The iPads are both logged into my icloud account. A single copy was purchased on my account and is being used on both iPads. Please let me know if this is not a good way to run. I do not mind purchasing a second copy, but I do not know how since both iPads are on the same iCloud account.

For the last few days, my son and I have been playing a multiplayer world together with no problems. Today we read a tutorial and decided to create a brand new world to start from scratch. At first, I could not even see the new game. After restarting several times, I could see it. However, after joining it, I would often see the sky flashing and be unable to move. Sometimes I could move around the world, but I always end up getting disconnected from the game after a few minutes of playing.

We tried killing the minecraft process on both iPads and restarting, but this had no effect.

We then uninstalled and reinstalled minecraft on both iPads. After creating a new world on one ipad (survival), the other ipad was unable to see see the new world for about 15 seconds. We waited patiently and when the world appeared as an option on the other iPad, we attempted to connect. However, after trying to connect, the other ipad reported "Unable to connect to world". On the second attempt, the sky was flasying and the new player was unable to move for a period of time. After waiting for a period of time, the sky stopped flashing and the game was successfully joined. We attempted to move toward a stand of trees. As we were moving, the second ipad (not the host) was "Disconnected from server".

We are very excited about the possibility of playing Minecraft PE together mainly because of how easy it is to setup a mutiplayer game. For now, we will put it on hold and wait for the next update. We look forward to playing again when multiplayer mode is more stable.

Comment by Sam Johnson [ 23/Feb/16 ]

It also used to happen on windows 10 edition/android, it's fixed now. I can't test IOS/android, I don't have an iOS device.

Comment by Garry Wright [ 23/Feb/16 ]

Yes, definitely still broken. My girls say thank you for the lovely new update but please please please try to fix this bug which is still driving them crazy!

Comment by Ashley Ward [ 23/Feb/16 ]

Afraid it still appears for my family in 0.14.0.

Comment by AMAN4700 [ 23/Feb/16 ]

Does this bug still appear in 0.14.0? If so please respond.

Comment by Ashley Ward [ 19/Feb/16 ]

I've been experiencing this issue for several months, and it doesn't seem solved in the recent 0.14.0 update.

I suspect there might be more than one issue: sometimes we can work around it by restarting Minecraft on the server device, sometimes on the client device. Sometimes turning WiFi off and on is necessary (again, it seems to vary on which device this is required).

Today I replaced our BT Home Hub with an (old) Apple AirPort Extreme router, but sadly that also doesn't seem to have fixed the issue.

Comment by Rui Ferrao [ 16/Feb/16 ]

I am experiencing this problem as well, Luke Arnold workaround worked perfectly for me!

I now get an outdated server and the site :

http://jenkins.pocketmine.net/job/PocketMine-MP/Development/

is offline, any idea where i can get a server version that works with MCPE v0.13.2alpha?

Comment by 8times9 [ 15/Feb/16 ]

I have discovered a workaround which works every time (so far):

Completely shut off Minecraft on host device

Turn WiFi off and on for host device

Host server should now be visible to client

Comment by John Boersema [ 15/Feb/16 ]

I fixed it buy using an app called: plug for pocketmine, I run the server, Make sure that you are not in a world when you do this.
Then wait on both devices for it to appear on the top. Click it and you are in.

Comment by Eric Fretz [ 13/Feb/16 ]

I am having the same problems with connecting to LAN games. My setup: iPad Air 2 running iOS 8.3, iPad Mini running iOS 9.1.

Starting MCPE on both devices with Multiplayer enabled does not show remote worlds on either device.

For what it is worth, I did some Wireshark packet captures on my router and found that the iPads are sending UDP traffic to each other, and the messages all appear to be < 100 bytes.

I have also tried connection MCPE to a local Pocketmine server. When I add the server manually to MCPE running on the iPad, it hangs at "Locating Server".

Comment by JenRen [ 30/Jan/16 ]

Still an issue as well for my family using iPad 4th gen and Samsung Galaxy S4 phones. Also recently purchased a Kindle Fire, and cannot find worlds there either all on same WiFi. Minecraft PE = v0.13.1 alpha.

Comment by Sam Johnson [ 20/Jan/16 ]

Ios players can't play with android players on LAN. Confirmed on my friends iPhone 5 and my Samsung Galaxy Tab A.

Comment by DL [ 30/Dec/15 ]

Using v0.13.1. Can confirm it's still an issue.
Workaround in description does work.

Comment by Scott Roxburgh [ 03/Dec/15 ]

Just a note for the iOS users out there. Restarting the device will start up a whole slew of other apps that may be installed. I find it best to double click the button at the bottom of the ipad and manually close ALL (Including Mincecraft) apps running in the back ground. (On ours there are about 30 of them.) For me it doesn't matter what order I start minecraft, the other players world shows up after about 5 seconds waiting.

Note to Mojang. This looks like an issue with lack of available memory on the device. Whether this is a memory leak in minecraft OR another app that is running or just plain not enough memory is something that should be investigated.

Comment by Nigel [ 03/Dec/15 ]

as an additional note to the above, it will ONLY work this way, done in this order - any deviation from this at all (for example if I wanted to join my sons world, but launched minecraft before he did) - it wouldn't work

Comment by Nigel [ 03/Dec/15 ]

Yeah, it's still there - not as bad as it was, but still there. We have found the following works (and is the quickest way to solve)

Both (or multiple) users need to close minecraft (by double pressing home button and swiping it away)
People who want to join world need to switch on airplane mode for 10 seconds or so, then turn off again (the person whose world they are trying to join does not need to do this)
Person whose world will be joined needs to launch minecraft FIRST, and enter their world
Then (and only then) do other users launch minecraft, click play, and the world they want to join will appear.

Only takes about 30 seconds or less in total, so it's a good workaround - BUT - and I'm talking to mojang here - it IS a workaround, and the issue really needs fixed so it works as it should and always did until v.11

Comment by [Mojang] MissMarzenia (Aleksandra Zajac) [ 03/Dec/15 ]

Thanks, we are still looking into it.

Comment by Garry Wright [ 03/Dec/15 ]

Yes this bug is definitely still in V0.13.0 and affects all of our devices including iPad, iPad Mini, iPad Pro, iPhone 6 Plus. It's driving the kids crazy! Entering aircraft mode for a few minutes was the only workaround that worked. Hope this info is useful.

Comment by [Mojang] MissMarzenia (Aleksandra Zajac) [ 03/Dec/15 ]

Cleaning up old issues. If this bug still occurs in latest version, please leave a comment so we can reopen.

when I want to connect MCWIN10 my pc since Android I get "full server" . connecting by public ip and port default . 19132.
Anyone know why this happens

Comment by Stephen [ 22/Oct/15 ]

I can reproduce this consistently on my iPad in the current version when connecting to the other ipad in my household. If there is anymore information I can provide please let me know.

To fix I turn on airplane mode, wait, then turn off. Occasionally I have to restart the ipad.

Korvhund This is not a forum, this is a tool for reporting bugs, please avoid flaming. It is not helpful to anyone. Thanks!

Comment by Kevin Hamilton [ 18/Oct/15 ]

LAN play worked fine in 0.11.1. Issue appeared in 0.12.1.

I have a big house, so I have a large wifi network. The network is constructed using a few Apple routers. The root router is an AirPort Extreme. The others are AirPort Expresses. The AirPort expresses are physically wired to a switch connected to a wired port on the root router. All routers have updated firmware. Here's the basic network config:

  Master APExtreme (DHCP/NAT)
switch switch switch
Sub1 (Bridge mode) Sub2 (Bridge mode) Sub3 (Bridge mode)

The routers use the same network name/password, but are assigned non-interfering RF channels. We never had the issue with 0.11.1. It only appeared after the 0.12.1 update. Nothing in the network has changed since 0.11.1.

Three of us play PE together. Although we're in the same room, the room is equadistant between two routers, so one person's device will be connected to the Master, while the others will be connected through a Sub (or vice versa). In this case, the workaround alone is insufficient to remedy the issue. But if I restart the sub (causing all iOS devices to connect to the same/root router), then executing the workaround procedure works most of the time.

Thanks, Aleksandra, for your efforts to fix this.

Comment by Andrew Niere [ 17/Oct/15 ]

Yes. Still happening. C'mon Mojang, enough of amateur hour. Fix your bugs!!

Comment by Katten [ 17/Oct/15 ]

Still present in 0.12.2. Thank you @roryhinnen.

Comment by Rory Hinnen [ 17/Oct/15 ]

Still seeing this issue in 12.2. Following the workaround sometimes corrects it, but not on all devices.

Comment by [Mojang] MissMarzenia (Aleksandra Zajac) [ 16/Oct/15 ]

Please update your game to 12.2. If the issue still occurs, please leave a comment.

Comment by Mark [ 14/Oct/15 ]

We've had great success in getting multiplayer to work by restarting all the iPads (we only have iPads, so not sure if it works on other devices.)

At first we reboot every ipad, and it worked. We could get into each other's worlds.
We have learned now that we do not have to reset the host ipad, just the "joiner's" device.
Hope this helps. I know, it's not fun. But it works, and keeps my 5 year old happy.

Rebooting seems to work when using the remote "multiplayer PE" app too.

Comment by Ching YH [ 05/Oct/15 ]

This happens to me a lot. Whenever I try to connect to my cousin's minecraft world, I have to switch the Wifi on and off many times, most of the time taking more than 5 minutes to be able to connect

Comment by 8times9 [ 29/Sep/15 ]

Okay, I understand.

Comment by [Mojang] MissMarzenia (Aleksandra Zajac) [ 29/Sep/15 ]

_0x10c With all due respect for you, please stop this. I do not want to get into this conversation with you in public. I repeat - this is not a forum, it is a bug tracker. Stop adding fuel to the fire. If you need to comment on development style, please visit MCPE section of Reddit.

Comment by 8times9 [ 29/Sep/15 ]

From what I hear, a [huge] 0.13 update is already in the works.

Allow me to be candid: this is...pathetic. With all due respect to the developers, they are only comprising to the frequent idiotic hype and demand of a portion of the Minecraft community. How hard is it to fix bugs and release a bug fix update? Imagine how long this would last on the Java edition. "I CANT JOIN GAMEZ ANYMORE!!!!!". Yeah, a 1.8.9 would release within a day. Minecraft PE on the otherhand? Ehh...4-5 months. Some people have not been able to use Minecraft since 0.11. Sad.

I hope they will reconsider and release a 0.12.2 update soon. I respect what they have done, and would hate for them to lose their good reputation to this unfortunate negligence.

Comment by Tom Robinson [ 29/Sep/15 ]

We had just bought our third minecraft installer and upgraded to the latest 0.21.1 version (Android) . Now the network component is faulty. My kids are heart broken over this bug, especially as they have holidays now. The previous version worked perfectly. I have tried turning off/on wifi but it still won't show the server to connect devices. When will this be fixed?

Comment by Andrew Niere [ 25/Sep/15 ]

Good stuff Eucy. I still have the issue, but have narrowed it just the host that needs to be reset.

Comment by Eucy [ 25/Sep/15 ]

Finally! This is no longer a problem for me anymore! I found that turning off the router (wifi) completely and setting both iPads on aeroplane mode for 5 minutes that local sever multiplayer worked again! I'd like to thank the following people for helping me out here :
Aleksandra Zajac.
Nigel.
SammyGarza.
Luke Arnould.
Andrew Niere.
Daniel Chi.
Robert Drezwuki.
You helped me so much thanks! It's great to be able to play multiplayer again! (I also hope that I spelt all your names correctly!!) For now goodbye and thanks again! 🙌🏼

Comment by Robert Drzewucki [ 25/Sep/15 ]

I found that after resetting my WiFi router and putting my devices in airplane mode as explained above, I had to change my Game name under options on the main play button screen to be at least 3 characters. When it was one or two characters, my games would not show on other players devices.

I had to make the game option name chance on my iPad v9.0.1

Comment by Eucy [ 24/Sep/15 ]

How did you fix the bug (if you did). Or did you just give minecraft a break? ⭐️

Comment by James Young [ 24/Sep/15 ]

This isn't a problem for me anymore!

Comment by Jason vandervlies [ 21/Sep/15 ]

This work around isn't working for us. 3 iPad mini 2's now running iOS9, but it didn't work previous to upgrade to 9 either. We have tried all these work arounds and left the game list open for many minutes and no multiplayer games show up. My kids used this feature everyday for many months before it stopped working a few weeks ago. No network/router changes. The only good news is my kids are unplugging themselves without me saying anything.

Comment by Daniel Chi [ 19/Sep/15 ]

Aloha all, again! Update. Following the recommendations, we were able to connect via LAN. The fix lasts temporarily and needs to be repeated each time a new game session is started. If you log out of the host server, you will more than likely not be able to log back in without performing the "fix" procedure. The procedure that worked for us is as follows:

1. Quit Minecraft completely (force quit). Press home button twice. Sweep left or right to find Minecraft PE. Swipe up to quit the app from running in background.
2. Place iOS device in Airplane mode and wait a few minutes.
3. Reset/restart your wifi router (turn on/off or unplug/plug in). Wait a few minutes between off and on in this step as well.
4. Restart wifi router, turn off Airplane mode on devices, start MCPE on server/host device. Guest devices should see the host on their lists now (at least we did). Log in and have fun! (Again!)
Keep in mind that if the guest logs off or the server quits, the above procedure needs to occur all over again. It was nice to be able to play together again . Hope this helps some out there...

Comment by Katten [ 18/Sep/15 ]

Confirmed to affect 0.12.1 on iPhone 6+ (iOS 9 & iOS 8.4.1) and iPad Mini (iOS 9 & iOS 8.4).
In my experience, this seems to occur when one player opens the app with LAN switched to "off" in settings, changing to "on" later. The only reproducible solution is to force quit the app on both devices, though this may also apply the "on" setting in a similar manner to MCPE-7880.
Another cause that I haven't ruled out is leaving one device's app open in the background for 12 hours or more.

Comment by Andrew Niere [ 18/Sep/15 ]

Turn your wifi modem/router on and off

Comment by Eucy [ 18/Sep/15 ]

What does rebooting the router mean? Keen to try it out on both iPads. Thanks

Comment by Andrew Niere [ 18/Sep/15 ]

I also got multiplayer working last night by exiting minecraft on both iPads, setting them on airplane mode for a few mins and rebooting the router.
By the morning though they wouldn't connect, until I had quit minecraft on both iPads.

Comment by Eucy [ 18/Sep/15 ]

Awesome! Thanks Daniel Chi for the update! I updated my iPad an hour or so ago and so did my brother. Hopefully it will work for a little while!!

Comment by Daniel Chi [ 18/Sep/15 ]

Aloha all! Same problem as everyone else reported here since updating to 12.1. Devices involved: all iOS (iPhone and iPad). Interestingly, after updating to iOS 9 last night with a resulting complete "reset" of all the devices, we were able to connect via LAN again. However, this only lasted for a short time. During that time we experimented by logging in and out at intervals with success. After a period of about 30 minutes, we tried to join by LAN again but were unable to see each other's worlds-just as before. I hope this report lends some clues to an eventual fix.

Comment by Eucy [ 16/Sep/15 ]

Just got the update and possible suggestions to fix the glitch/bug. I'll be sure to try them all and thanks for the effort!! 🙌🏼

Comment by Eucy [ 16/Sep/15 ]

Ok thank you! 👍🏼

Comment by Andrew Niere [ 16/Sep/15 ]

Aleksandra from Mojang commented at the top of the page "This is a known issue and it is being looked into"

Comment by Eucy [ 16/Sep/15 ]

I totally understand that the Mojang employees and such are under great stress dealing with other bugs for Minecraft as well. However, I am curious to whether or not this L.A.N glitch/bug is being fixed currently? Also stating that it has now been a week since I updated my Minecraft PE app and still, I cannot connect.
Thanks again!! 🌻

Comment by Andrew Niere [ 16/Sep/15 ]

Hi Aleksandra - your approach is a little counter intuitive... all people need to know is that at some point the bug they perceive has been acknowledged as a 'bug'... your description at the top of the post "We are aware of this issue"... suddenly means I can tell my kids "they know about it, it will probably get fixed", until then people that are logging bugs for you don't know if it's a genuine issue of a peculiarity of their own set up/device. You don't have to tell us who it's assigned to, but at least consider providing some sort of update so it's not a totally one sided flow of information.

Comment by 8times9 [ 15/Sep/15 ]

No offense, Nigel, but you might want to back off a bit.

Thanks for answering my questions, Aleksandra. The new method seems more efficient.

Comment by Nigel [ 15/Sep/15 ]

Fair enough Aleksandra - though hopefully it's fixed soon, as, even in my own home, minecraft is losing players due to this - who, you never know with kids, might never pick up the game again once they decide they don't like it any more...

Everyone else - you heard them - the more votes this has, the more severe they'll see it, and the sooner it'll be fixed, so if you have this issue, make sure to vote in the top right corner!

Comment by [Mojang] MissMarzenia (Aleksandra Zajac) [ 15/Sep/15 ]

No, we will not post a comment or assign bugs. We will resolve them when new version comes out if they were fixed. You indicate the severity by watching/voting and commenting on issues, with relevant information.

We have another - internal tool that is used to assign issues to developers and testers. There is no reason to double that in Jira.

Please understand that we do visit the tracker daily and are aware of most issues. We can't comment on all of them because that would take time that we feel is better used to actually fix stuff.

Comment by 8times9 [ 15/Sep/15 ]

And how will we know if you are looking into a bug? Will you post a comment saying you are looking into it?

Comment by 8times9 [ 15/Sep/15 ]

I'm just wondering, why don't you assign bugs anymore?

Comment by [Mojang] MissMarzenia (Aleksandra Zajac) [ 15/Sep/15 ]

We are aware of this issue and the fact it is not assigned does not mean we are not fixing it. We do not assign issues in Jira to developers anymore.
This is a known issue and it is being looked into. Please comment only if you have bug relevant information and try to be respectful of other people's issues.

This is not a forum, this is a bug reporting tool. I have removed several comments because they were disrespectful or/and irrelevant.

Comment by SammyGarza [ 13/Sep/15 ]

Hope you know Luke that Many of these bugs are fix _ and they wouldn't need this website if they knew all the bugs so ya next time might want to check before posting.

Comment by 8times9 [ 13/Sep/15 ]

I am unable to get an iPad 2 to join the Windows 10 Edition, and vise versa.

Comment by SammyGarza [ 13/Sep/15 ]

This is not a unstable update! There is no 200 plus bugs! This bug doesn't affect everyone. I am on of those people who does work.

Yeah, 4 days later and Minecraft / Mojang don't seem interested at all...

This is, unfortunately, what i expected to happen to minecraft once microsoft got involved, and so it comes to pass - buggy software being released, making things worse, and hugely slow to fix problems...

Okay...this glitch (or whatever it is) is common in the new update and bad - not to mention REALLY ANNOYING!! How can it remain unassigned as Andrew Niere said and how can there STILL be no attempt to fix it?! Surely someone with great expertise would have seen this! Come on Mojang! I didn't sign up for nothing!! Please fix this glitch ASAP!!

Sometimes I can't connect to I do refresh the app and this problem is fix. So i am wondering what's going on with you guys? Try Turning off the wifi for a little bit then turning it back on. ( MAKE SURE TO turn off your iPad with Internet option off!)

Same issue here. Have all devices on same wifi, 2 iPad minis, an iPad Air, and an iPhone 6. None of them can see each other. We used to play as a family so please fix this issue

Try turning off the wifi for a good 5 minutes.

Happening on 8.4.1 iPad 3 and iPadAir (I did get it briefly working when I rebooted the router and then it stopped again - I haven't repeated that process yet to see if it is time based).

Had already tried that (of course) - resetting the ipads, quitting and re-starting the app, closing all other apps, turning all setings on and off, disconnecting and reconnecting to wifi etc.

None of it working.

this seems to be happening to quite a lot of people - see http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/support/minecraft-pocket-edition-support/2521674-cant-use-local-server-multiplayer-help

My kids (aged 5) love playing in creative worlds on their ipad 2, and always join each others worlds (by clicking play and waiting for the world the other person is in to appear in blue with a wifi signal beside it) - since updating last night to 0.12.1 (auto downloaded from app store), the other persons world does not appear at all in this list - they are both connected to wifi, both on the same network, in a world with multiplayer turned on, everything as it should be - and all else seems to work fine (playing in their own worlds is fine) - simply they do not get the option to join each others worlds - please help - this is a major issue for them as it's playing with each other, and being able to join each others worlds that they love about minecraft.

I also tried joining their worlds from my iphone 4s and no multiplayer worlds are appearing on it either
