 Description   

If you sneak up to an edge of a block, first release movement key, and then release shift, you appear to be over the edge. This is what it looks like:

The rectangle player hitbox (F3 + B) is still slightly over the edge of the block, but since the model of the player mob is not rectangular, this is working by design.

Confirmed.
No need to release shift, just walk backwars while holding shift.
