 Description

I log into minecraft and the game starts like usual. I can connect to a multiplayer server and start playing fine, but if I click "Single Player" on the main menu, the game instantly freezes and crashes without even displaying the list of saved worlds.

I have tried deleting my bin, resources, etc. folders and redownloading the client, as well as two different JVMs listed above under "Environment." Nothing fixed the problem.

Attached is the crash report from running under OpenJDK 1.6.0_27.

I looked into it some more. It turned out that my .minecraft/saves folder was a symlink to a nonexistent directory, and on 1.5.1 (and 1.5 IIRC), this crash is fixed.
The game still crashes if the saves directory exists, but Minecraft is missing read/write permissions for it, though. I will file a new issue.

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

Based on a crash report provided in this issue, I believe with high certainty that this report may be a duplicate of MC-6682. If I am wrong, please go yell at Dinnerbone.
