 Description   

I'm not sure if it's intended or not, but if a chest has a block above it, so it can't be opened (as shown in the picture), any hoppers connected to it don't deposit items in the chest. I have tested it in both survival and creative, and with both sizes of chest and with both normal and trapped chests.
