 Description

I got something out of a chest for my house. Once I went to use that item it disappeared and was back in the chest, this also happens when I put items in a chest. This bug happens occasionally

What I expected to happen was...: For the items to stay in my inventory once I took them out of the chest or put one in.

What actually happened was...: The chests items disappeared from my inventory once I pulled them out of the chest or used the item. Or popped back into my inventory after I put them in the chest. (This sometimes happens when shift-clicking.)

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Pull an item from a chest or put one in.

2. Open inventory or use the item.

3. It should disappear or reappear but note that it only happens every once and a while for me and a lot of other people as well.

I think this is a duplicate of MC-4024, please re-open if I'm incorrect.

What are your full specs.

It has been happening to me but after I updated Java, it seemed to happen less and less frequently.

I just wanted to note that using Sdusiron is right. Above you can see I said I had a lot of problems with chest lag. I've known for a while that my mouse is breaking down. I started using a different one and it works like a charm. No chest problems at all.

Comment by Sdusiron [ 07/Dec/12 ]

For this bug to happen you should click a chest with right mouse button at least twice before chest inventory opens. Then the chest will quickly open and close and all your interactions with chest inventory will be undone once you close the inventory. Though on a client side you won't realise it until you open again any chest or furnace or anything like that or if you try to use a fake item from your inventory which the client thinks is there, but the server thinks is not.

I have this same problem on single player.

Comment by Paul Ronquillo [ 28/Nov/12 ]

I just made an account just to comment on this. This isn't just a 15% of the time for me. I experience this 100% of the time. It makes any kind of interaction with any chests horrible. When it takes a half hour to get your sword or some food when it's right there is so frustrating.

For me this happens all the time, but I'm only able to actually get things to stay in the chests when I shift click. If I drag and drop, I have never gotten anything to stay. It even applies to rearranging the chests, but not as severe. I'll move things within my chest and close it and open again and it's like they weren't moved at all. But I usually just have to move them twice. It seems like when I take items out of the chests it's only when I interact with the item within my inventory (click on it or use it) that it disappears back into the chest.

I've been just playing single player. I'm currently running mods but it does this just the same way in vanilla Minecraft. I'm running Ubuntu 12.10 32bit, Java 7, 4GB DDR3 RAM, AMD Athlon II P320 Dual-Core Processor ×2.
I hope what I've shown helps.

Luke, you'd play with 1.4.5 ?
Can you please press F3 + C in-game to force a crash and attach the resulting crash report here ?

I also have this problem, as well as the double block placement issue, and I believe they are related.
This occurs in single player for me, and I will attest that this does make the game almost unplayable.

I have noticed that when this bug happens it is usually linked to:
1) The chest opening sound does not play; or
2) The chest opening animation does not play; or
3) The chest opening sound begins but cuts off; or
4) The chest opening animation begins, but then immediately the chest closes; or
5) The chest opening sound and animation play, but the closing sound or animation does not.

My laptop specs are:
Intel core i5-2450M, 2.5GHz
8GB DDR3
64 Bit Windows 7
NVIDIA GeForce 610M

I have tried with and without the latest optifine, and on tiny/fast graphics to no avail.

Comment by Shaylyn Flora Archuleta [ 08/Nov/12 ]

I have done all of that before and it still did not help.

Comment by Woof Barkinton [ 04/Nov/12 ]

Same problem single and multi, making the game near unplayable. Best way to see this problem is to take a full stack of any item and try placing it 1 by 1 in either chest or player inventory. Occasionally, the item will place twice almost instantly. Also can happen when placing blocks in the world, all of a sudden it'll place multiple items very quickly. Really seems like a lag spike but only happens on my Win7 PC. My WinXP PC does not have this problem. Both have dual core AMD with ATI graphics. Can't comment on the XP right now, but here are the Win7 specs;
AMD Phenom II X2 545 CPU 3Ghz
RAM 4GB
32 bit OS
ATI Radeon 5800

The XP one isn't as good, you'd think it'd happen on that one.

Attempts to fix;
Force update
Full re-install
Java re-install
Changed javaw.exe process Affinity to use only 1 core
Use of latest Optifine
None of the above helped. Hope what I added here will assist in resolution, thanks!

Yeah happens to me too both on Multiplayer and Single. very annoying!

Comment by Shaylyn Flora Archuleta [ 01/Nov/12 ]

It happens to me on both servers and single player.

Comment by Takaya Sato [ 31/Oct/12 ]

It doesn't happen to me on single player, but t does happen on servers, which makes sense if the server is lagging. I have to ask you a question (There are 2 possible solutions). Which are you using? Multi or single?

Comment by Raphael [ 28/Oct/12 ]

Strange, i heard about it a lot, but it never happened to me.

Comment by codiak [ 25/Oct/12 ]

Can confirm this issue on an ubuntu x64 server / java 6.
Sometimes very annoying.

Comment by Ryan Hartman [ 24/Oct/12 ]

Yes, it reappears in the chest. I shouldn't be experiencing any lag spikes as half the time I'm playing on the same machine as the server. that should rule out any network issues. quad core i7 at 4.5ghz, nvidia 570, no reason for lag.

Comment by DarkWolff [ 24/Oct/12 ]

Do the items return to the chest when this happens? I've seen this happen during lag spikes.

Comment by Ryan Hartman [ 24/Oct/12 ]

I have the same issue. Server is on windows 7 ultimate 64bit, client machines as well. Happens roughly 15-25% of the time. Seems to happen in spurts, then not for a while. Very annoying.

edit: Java 7 64 bit on server and clients.

Comment by John gem [ 24/Oct/12 ]

This frequently happens to me.
