Status: Resolved
Project: Minecraft: Java Edition
Component/s: None
Affects Version/s: Minecraft 1.4.2

Type: Bug

Labels: death, messages, mob
Environment:

Windows7 service pack 1, Java 64 bit edition

Confirmation Status: Unconfirmed
Game Mode: Survival

 Description

Every hostile mob (including angered wolves and zombie pigman) which kills a player gives a death message <playername> killed <playername>. Only regular Skeletons, Creepers and Witches give correct death messages.
I didn't test it with Enderdragon, Wither skeletons, Withers and Silverfishes.

@David: Because translation issues should be solved by the community in http://crowdin.net/project/minecraft/

Uhhhmmm... Why was this issue signed as invalid? Is it because it's a translation issue?

Comment by Kumasasa [ 29/Oct/12 ]

Well, in that special case it wasn't clear at first glance if that issue is a translation issue or a game issue.
Some other issues cannot be handled at crowdin.net alone, e.g. [MC-126] because the source of the translation disappeared.
"Normal" translation issues, e.g. the "Cookie vs. Biscuit"-Discussion http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Talk:Issues/1.4pre should be handled at crowdin.net.

Does anyone see a reason to handle translation issues here in the future, or should they just be handled at crowdin.net?

Comment by Kumasasa [ 29/Oct/12 ]

The translations are fixed now in crowdin.net. Whenever mojang pulls the new translations from there (1.4.3 ?) that issue here can be closed.

This applies too for death.player, so the message will be <player*1*> was killed by <player*1*> instead of <player*1*> was killed by <player*2*>.
I've commented that too in crowdin.net and wrote a message to the translator "dwi" of that texts.

The error is subtle. In the czech translation the Dollar-sign in the first parameter is missing. It's
%2s zaříznul hráče %1$s but should be
%2$s zaříznul hráče %1$s

I've left a comment in crowdin.net in the czech section.

Just died to a Czech spider and got "Chalmes zaříznul hráče Chalmes"

Edit: Pigman killed me with exactly the same message. No mention of mob name at all.

The message death.mob is in english %1$s was slain by %2$s and in czech %2s zaříznul hráče %1$s . The message death.player is in english too %1$s was slain by %2$s but in czech %2s zardousil hráče %1$s . Does that help ? (I pulled the translation out of crowdin.net, you may take a look in the czech .lang file in minecraft.jar/lang/ )

Well I'm using czech language pack, so maybe it really is only czech related issue.

Is this maybe a language pack issue? I've tried both Pigmen and Spiders and both gave me the correct "Chalmes was slain by ...." message

Edit: Have tried both US and British english languages....both ok. Have also tried both single and multiplayer, still both ok.
