 Description

This seems to be a game-wide issue that affects all copies of Minecraft. Basically, it's the fact that when a light source melts Ice naturally, the Ice will turn into a water source block regardless of the placement conditions of said Ice. I know that when a player breaks Ice, it will only become a source of water when there is a solid block below the broken Ice, otherwise it will disappear. Ice melted by things such as Glowstone and torches does not discriminate in this way. A similar bug I've found listed here has noted that these source blocks created in this way also stand still and will not flow in any direction until an adjacent block receives an update; this is also likely a bug, but not the one I am trying to address.

I would like to request at least a simple jurisdiction over whether this is actually a bug or an intended feature. Both sides can be argued, but I personally find this to be very annoying at times and illogical at others.

(My humblest apologies if this is a duplicate. My research turned up nothing of this sort, so I felt compelled to bring it up.)

Confirmed for 1.13.1.

Can confirm in 1.13-pre3.

Also does start flowing right away instead of being suspended.

Confirmed for 1.8.

Confirmed for 14w28b

@Tails Based on your above description, shouldn't the bug involve FLOATING ice blocks since that is where the inconsistency is?

Comment by Anon Ymus [ 10/Jul/14 ]

That version doesn't exist yet.

confirmed 14w28b

Confirm 14w07a

The point is:
1. break a floating block of ice with hand - no water source is created
2. break a suspended block of ice with hand - creates water source
3. smelt ice with light suspended - creates water source (with the bug of not flowing)
4. smelt a floating block of ice - water source is created -> inconsistency with #1 -> different than MC-6674.

I don't really understand what makes this different from the report I made.

If the water flowed like it should, then you wouldn't get this floating water source block. If water didn't flow when you dumped a bucket, then you could easily make a suspended water block. So, technically you are restating the whole "Water doesn't flow when ice is melted" report, just making the ice floating.

Confirmed.

Removed the confusing screenshot.

Well, reopened.

This deals with water appearing when suspended. Whether or not it flows is not the focus here... Do you still feel that my issue is to be lumped with this one anyway?
