The bugEating a food item has a chance of also consuming a second food item without any animation. How to reproduce
Code analysisThis bug seems to be caused as well by a SPacketSetSlot packet causing an item in use mismatch, therefor see this comment. |

This is not the bug you're looking for. Your thing sounds like just lag, although it's a bit different than usual. If you know how to record your game and how to reproduce your eating problem, you can create a new bug report and attach the video there. |
| Comment by Jake Thorson [ 16/Dec/16 ] |

I am on Minecraft 1.10.2 and I can't eat Cooked Porkchops. When I right-click with a Cooked Porkchop in my character's hand, the Cooked Porkchop moves slowly in front of my character, then stops moving for a few seconds, then it does the "eating" animation, but the animation is slow, there's no particles around the Cooked Porkchop, there's no eating sound, it takes 50-90 seconds, then the particles appear and the eating sound plays, then the Cooked Porkchop disappears, and my hunger meter stays at the same level that it was at before I started eating the Cooked Porkchop. So basically I ate a Cooked Porkchop in Minecraft for nothing. |
| Comment by Mark Jeronimus [ 27/Oct/16 ] |

Confirmed that this also happens with feeding. I had two pieces of raw meat, I right-clicked on the first dog, walked towards the second dog, heard myself burp and I had no meat left. |

Tom, if this was intentional, it would have been closed as "works as intended" ages ago. Also, it makes no sense. Given that you have to stop holding the button with just the right timing, it is rather hard to do on purpose. My theory that Steve has an eating disorder makes more sense, and I only said that to be silly. |
| Comment by Fabian Röling [ 28/Jun/16 ] |
|
I'm pretty sure you get the eating and then the burping usually, the second one just leaves out the eating sound. |
| Comment by tomatitus1 [ 28/Jun/16 ] |
|
This is a really old thing, and I always assumed it was intentional because it has its own unique sound. This is the only way to play the burping sound in Minecraft so I'm pretty sure it was intentional. If someone can confirm this please do so |

Still in 1.8.5. This has been going on through the last 4 computers I've owned. Timing of releasing the button is the key, and I'd learned to hold the button down a little longer, so it stopped happening. Today I was careless and it happened again. If you're trying to replicate, listen to the rhythm of Steve's eating. It sounds like "crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch, gulp". If you call the time between each crunch a "bite", you release the button 1 "bite" after the "gulp". After another "bite", there will be another "gulp" and a second food will be consumed. |

I've seen this bug numerous times, but just today it happened even after accessing a tile entity screen, which I've never seen before. I ate a steak, then immediately accessed an anvil without switching away from the food, and after the anvil screen came up the burp noise happened and another food was consumed. As mentioned before, switching away from the food immediately after eating will prevent this bug, but apparently accessing an anvil screen will not. Just thought I'd mention it. |

Definitely still there in 1.7.4 I would go over my theories for how to reproduce it, but MANY different posters have already done that quite effectively. |
| Comment by a [ 19/Dec/13 ] |
|
Yep, the fact that the burp seems to only occur when this happens makes me nervous that some genius thought it was more "realistic" or something and wrote this bug intentionally. |
| Comment by ZaCloud [ 19/Dec/13 ] |
|
This is so long-standing, and it still hasn't even been assigned yet? Sheesh... In case it helps any, the "burp" sound effect usually plays when the second item is consumed. So this seems like it's an intended function. Yet, why have such a terrible idea built into the game? (Oh right, they also thought that random zombies spawning in your face was a great idea too...) With normal food this isn't always an issue, but with golden apples or if you're on a hunger budget? Very much! |

This has been an issue since 1.4.7, maybe earlier. Can be seen if you watch the UHC Minecrack Youtube channels. They play on a 1.4.7 server durning the UHC sessions. Several times a player will have 2 golden apples, they will eat one, as soon as they finish 1 apple a louder "munch" sound can be heard Immediately after and both apples are eaten (the louder munch sound is like 2 instances on top of each other). they have had to resort to keeping the apple they are going to eat seperate from the stack of apples just to make sure they don't waste food. |
| Comment by mike [ 04/Jun/13 ] |

Confirmed in 13w22a. I also found that if i open a menu, whether its a chest, furnace, or inventory immediately after eating and I have some hunger left, I consume an extra piece of food. |

Maybe you do, but ambiguity is not a virtue, and is discouraged in the instructions on how to write bug reports. And what is the point of writing a "How to reproduce", when the original report already contains a superior description? I think it's great if you want to contribute. This bug really irks me. But please be constructive. Don't post smart comments for the fun of it, or just because you can. It is not helpful in any way. It's just spam. If you are confused about what kind of standards you should try to live up to, then read the guides on this site. |

@Lasse I know there's no profit from the bug. I mean profit that you can reproduce the bug! |
| Comment by Lasse Füssel [ 30/May/13 ] |
|
There is no way to reproduce a bug that on appears inconsistently. The directions in the post are inferior to the description in the original report. There is no way to profit from the bug. Food items can only be wasted. That is a lot to get wrong in 3 sentences that barely average four words each. |
| Comment by kbk [ 30/May/13 ] |
|
Daniel probably does. I also think that this bug is more likely to occur if held consumable replenishes alot (e.g. baked pork, steak) but leaves 1-2 points left to regen - and less likely if you try to eat something like cookies being barely alive. |

Can confirm this is also in 1.5.2 and all the current latest snapshots, this seems to just be getting ignored. Seems the operation for some reason it getting run the second time. I have be messing around with this with forge to mod the game, I have found out that if I reduce the time it takes to eat an item of food to nothing, so it gets consumed instantly, no eating animation, then this issue NEVER happens. So the issues seems to be to do with holding the right mouse button down continues to try and run the code even though the food isn't eaten, and once it has it has built up and then runs it twice. What I don't understand is why it isn't every time. Also to stop this happening if you eat the food item and then instantly change to a different item or empty slot in the hot bar it will not EVER run twice. Very strange and random bug, hope for it to be getting fixed soon and that my information may of help'd. |

I too can reproduce this bug quite easily, still, in 1.4.7. Here is an unedited video on youtube which demonstrates the bug happening within 90 seconds of the title screen. Enjoy! http://youtu.be/cr_RJikpeFE |
| Comment by Jaqi Hegland [ 26/Jan/13 ] |
|
If you want to reproduce it more easily, use watermelon. It doesn't fill up your food bar as fast, so he still has room for more. He can even eat the extra piece while sprinting, It's really annoying when it happens with something like cooked meat, and you've eaten to 1/2 or 1 food down, then you eat another whole piece. Does Steve have a eating disorder? He just can't seem to stop eating unless I take it away from him... |
| Comment by Andrew Mancini [ 24/Jan/13 ] |
|
You are right. The mouse is not the problem. Still something I'd like fixed by the next update. You will often run into this bug playing survival, so it definitely affects gameplay. |
| Comment by Thomas Webster [ 15/Jan/13 ] |
|
I notice this happens most of the time when you eat a food item and it did not completely restore your health. then the avatar eats another without animation but plays a sound when your avatar finishes eating. IF you don't hold the eat button after you eat the first bit of food and don't switch the selected food you ate with. Defiantly not mouse problem |
| Comment by Andrew Mancini [ 26/Dec/12 ] |
|
Though the mouse may be a possibility, I doubt it because of the lack of animation and sound on the second consumed food. I have no idea what provoked this change in the 1.3 era. Either way, this bug is quite annoying when playing survival. |
| Comment by FireHunterX [ 24/Dec/12 ] |
|
It seems easier to do with a normal mouse; I get it less often on my MacBook's trackpad. |
| Comment by Andrew Mancini [ 24/Dec/12 ] |
|
Agreed Xavier. Was trying this on my Windows 7 laptop and didn't get any results. I had problems in the past, but rarely. When attempting on my mac, I didn't get any results on my first run, but playing on my normal survival map, I got results that I didn't even record. It happened VERY often. It could possibly be the mouse (but I doubt it because there is no animation on the second food item). I use the old apple mouse that has a button 3, but my MagicMouse has the same problem. |
| Comment by FireHunterX [ 24/Dec/12 ] |
|
Happens all the time on Mac. I tried this on Windows but it is MUCH rarer. |
| Comment by Andrew Mancini [ 24/Dec/12 ] |
|
Sadly, there is no sound. The first bread is eaten, and the right mouse button is let go. The sound of chewing, followed by a burp is as usual. A second bread is eaten without the animation (and without pressing the right mouse button). The only sound made is a burp after the second bread is done (no chewing sound). |
| Comment by Andrew Mancini [ 24/Dec/12 ] |
|
I've also had this problem very often while playing survival. This bug has been here probably since 1.3 Like other users say, this usually happens when moving. Also, the shank level mustn't be full after the first food item is consumed, and there should be enough shanks left so that the second item fills up the hunger bar. There doesn't seem to be a lag problem. I will try to post a video after Christmas performing the bug, if no mods can duplicate this. |
| Comment by Roachy [ 20/Dec/12 ] |
|
This happens to me as well. I've been able to do it pretty reliably by only consuming one food item, and releasing right-click slightly after the entire consumption process. For example, if eating takes 2 seconds, holding right-click for about 2.25 seconds will cause it. Right-clicking once more after releasing right-click seems to guarantee this doesn't happen. Also switching the item in your hand seems to guarantee it doesn't happen as well. Client: MC 1.4.6 SMP on Win7 64-bit, Java 7u9 64-bit No server lag or other performance oddities noticed. Edit: I think moving might also cause this to not happen? When trying to replicate this, make sure to stand still and not press anything else after releasing right-click. I've noticed that if you do it right, the animation of bringing the food to your mouth (the second time) starts to play for a brief instant but immediately stops. Then the food is consumed later at the time when the second animation would have been complete. Hope that helps. |
| Comment by TorchicBlaziken [ 16/Nov/12 ] |

I've been testing the snapshots for a while and this has been happening ever since the client/server merger. This is especially bad with Golden Apples since you can always eat another one, so it'll make you even if the first one fully restored your hunger. |

That doesn't really apply here since there were so many duplicates anyway, but you get the idea... |

|
To reproduce this bug easily, eat 2 items in a row without releasing the right mouse button in between. Try to release it precisely at the end of the consumption of the second item. It is highly likely that the bug will occur this way, which means that the player will eat a third food item without the animation, without the slow movement but only with the sound effect of eating. |

i try to help explaning this, because i first didn't think of it as a bug when it happened to me. and i want this ticket to be reopened when you eat there is possbility to consume two instead of one item. it occurs to me with any fooditem i tried (cooked potato, cooked chicken, steak). it seems to occour every 32 items, but not EVERY, just about. first i thought it's because i klicked the mousbutton to long, but that i not it. i noticed that you cannot see the second item is actually eaten. that shows me, that IS abug, not intended behavior. to replicate this you have to eat. a lot. it happened to me alot but i never found a clue that there is a symptom or thing to happen, that this bug happens. but, of course, you have to eat items which not fill the food-bar to the end, there must be a bit hunger left. so, i hope now everyone understands. if not, sorry, i try to write proper english but it's not my mothertoung. |

SMP? SP? Happens in Adventure mode also? Did you check for 'ghost food items'? Server lag? Does it also happen in LAN mode? On Windows? OS X? Linux? If you were on a server, what OS did the server use? What version of Java? How much RAM was allocated to the server? It may seem unrelated, but it may help. |

I've witnessed this problem on a large number of occasions, it isn't uncommon. There is not further information to give. I'm not kidding you. |

Please provide a meaningful summary and description with each ticket. Eric, to be honest I had no idea what it meant until I read your comment. I think we want to set the bar a little higher than that; you should be able to identify an issue by the summary, and the description should be cohesive and thorough. If the reporter or one of the other mods wants to fix the ticket up so it's complete, we can reopen it. |

How is that description vague? It may be hard to replicate and require some unknown condition in order to occur, or even be "user error", but I think the description is perfectly clear: a single click to eat a food item causes consumption of two. |

Too vague. Please be more specific. Unable to replicate. |
