If you name an item in an anvil that can be placed such as cobblestone, placing the item and breaking it makes the item not named anymore. For example, if I named a torch, "The awesome torch", then I placed and broke the named torch, the name would be reset back to its default name. |

that's because they don't support strings and it would be to much data, but it is a bug that renamed command blocks, furnaces, chests and hoppers don't keep their when you destroy them after you've placed them. |
