Silk touch Shears don't lose durability when mining grass, ice, etc. Making shears far superior to silk-touch pickaxes. Potentially solved by making silk-touch on shears only work for spider-web or alternatively having tools always consume durability when using silk-touch. |

"instead of just fixing that in 15w47b" Unless you meant at the same time as the removal, in which case it simply being overlooked is likely. Remember that snapshots are not professional releases, are not meant for serious gameplay, and have rapid changes. |

Just making shears lose durability when breaking all blocks was enough to fix this, except for cobweb that alone makes it better to put Silk Touch on a diamond tool for general use instead. People with Silk Touch shears left from 1.8 don't matter much since those shears will lose durability and break soon enough. Removing the need to get a Silk Touch book to make Silk Touch shears to get cobwebs is just a bonus, IMO. Slightly disappointing that 15w47b has unobtainable cobwebs that will be fixed in 15w47c/15w48a/whatever instead of just fixing that in 15w47b too (and makes me wonder if they're doing something more complicated than just making them obtainable with ordinary shears), but oh well. |

This is a freaking awful solution to this bug. For a start, what about all the people who already have silk touch shears? Not well thought out at all. I wish I had never posted this issue. |

Don't know what to think about this... Before cobweb was something special, since you don't need silk touch book, it's... meh. |

|
Don't worry, you'll be able to get cobwebs again in the next snapshot: |

Agreed! That was the best thing about silk touch on shears, the ability to get cobwebs. |

|
Shears must be able to have silk touch, because it is the only way to obtain |

It now always hurts like it should and you can no longer enchant shears with silktouch. |

Confirmed for Minecraft 1.9 Snapshot 15w45a. Also, the grass fix was reverted back. Now the shears only take durability when mining cobwebs and not when mining any of the other Silk Touchable blocks. This makes Silk Touch shears the most overpowered item in the game. |

Fixed for grass in 1.8.7, possibly eariler. |

I strongly object to the idea that this should be removed because it's "always worked like this". That doesn't make it any less a bug. |

|
@William Kopec, you're saying that because a bug has existed for a while, it should no longer be considered a bug? |

Request for this to get removed off the bug tracker. Shears have always worked like this, so it doesn't make sense to have this change potentially go through when it's been like this since silk touch was available to be put on shears. |

Confirmed for 1.8.4. Also this bug happens as well with glass, bookshelves, podzol, mycelium and many other silk touchable blocks. |

Confirmed in 1.8.1 Pre-release 3. |

Yea. Shears usually don't take damage against ice, due to shears unable to mine it faster. Also, It would make alot of blocklag if Mojang made the shears check for Silk. Also, still happens in 1.8.1-Pre1. Here is a example on what is with Silk: 1. Enchant a random block/item, and Shears with Silk. (Require Creative) It is due that enchantments can be used on All items but enchanted book. Even sticks can have knockback 100, and the chicken will be flung like 100 blocks. It is a bug that will take forever to fix. |

I wouldn't say it (a silk-touch shear) is far superior to a silk-touch pickaxe, compared to a silk-touch iron or diamond one which can return stone and any ores, where a shear cannot. Nevertheless, it is a bug, like the reporter has said. Video Proof: http://youtu.be/Tm09yoCcxKo I didn't realize til after the video that I didn't check ice. Both the silk-touch shears and regular shears do not take damage from breaking ice. Operating System: Windows 7 |

Ah, my mistake, I tested it on tall grass. Trying it on ice and grass blocks replicate the behavior you mentioned. |

Did you test on Grass and Ice? Could be my mistake, I will double check when I get home. |
