 Description   

opening a chest of any type on an old world causes a crash
I used the vanilla client with the default texture pack.
Ps: I did a search for this, and didn't find anything similar. If I missed something, my apologies.

Based on a crash report provided in this issue, I believe with high certainty that this report may be a duplicate of MC-7084. If I am wrong, please go yell at Dinnerbone.

Tails, the crash reports are completely different. This one has an issue with rendering the screen, and the other with the item.tile.lockedchest entity. Also, the bugs descriptions are different.
