 Description

As for the redstone update it would be great to have that stuff fixed.
The numbers of the bugs listed here equal the numbers in screenshot 1.

1. Redstone dust / machines on top of stairs can't be powered by torches underneath (maybe that's intented because of that missing part?).

2. Single Redstone wires don't visually connect to wires on top of stairs.

3. Redstone wires connected with wires on top of stairs aren't visually connected on the side of the stair ...
3a. ... while they should, at least when the back of the stair is adjacent to the redstone wire (like if it was a full block).

3. Redstone wires on top of stairs visually connect to redstone on blocks below while the wire on the block below does not.

4. Redstone signals can't get sent from stairs to lower blocks while they can be sent from blocks to stairs above.

5. Redstone torches can't be placed on the back of stairs

Resolving this since 60% of this ticket works as intended / feature request. If you want the other 40% to be fixed (2 and 3a) please open a new ticket.

The only things in this ticket that are a valid bug report are: 2 and 3a. The rest is feature request and should be posted on the MineCraft Forums: Suggestions.

As I said, they are working on the Redstone update so maybe they change current behaviours and allow new ones which would maybe improve the confusing behaviour of stairs. You can't just say "it's like that".
I hope you understand what I try to tell you

Redstone can power the block it is sitting on, or pointing to, and it can be powered from every direction. Stairs are transparent, which means redstone pointing to it won't power it and redstone running on top won't power it either; However, if you point redstone to a stair which has dust on top, you're powering the block below the dust and this transmits power. This is mostly intended, and also a zero-tick diode, super useful.

Redstone actually travels differently when going up and down. It has to pass through the block it is on to go down, but it doesn't to go up. I don't know why this is the case, but it is. And currently, a block either conducts redstone or doesn't. It can't be that some faces do and some don't. Perhaps resolve as Won't Fix?

I know that transparent blocks don't allow redstone signals to be sent through yet fact 4 shows inconsistend behaviour. Also I hoped the redstone update may be a chance to get that fixed/improved. Making changes and exceptations on existing systems is always possible.

If they change it there also may be exceptions on where signals get sent depending on which face of the stair is complete (compare with "Possible solution.jpg")

All seem to work as intended. Much of this is a duplicate of MC-4118. These all stem from the fact that stairs are transparent, yet upside stairs can still have redstone dust on them.
