 Description

Basically, whenever I start up any game of MineCraft, FPS starts at around 150, or whatever crazy high number it should be, then it does this perfect parabolic slope DOWN to around 13-22 FPS which is NOT normal for my setup.
I have tried tweaking every setting, change java versions, deleting and reinstalling, older versions etc.
Might be an OS related issue though since I did just install Windows 8 today, but I feel like if I can run Battlefield 3 normally on here, i should be able to run MineCraft just fine.
The first time I noticed this bug, I had been playing the game for about 15 minutes and the games framerate had degraded to something unplayable like 5-8FPS and when I checked task manager it was taking 1.5gb of RAM, so at first I suspected a memory leak, but it doesnt seem like I can replicate that RAM usage. (I havent been able to play longer than 5 minutes however with this terrible bug)

I have experienced this in 1.5.1. Just that I start with extremely low FPS. Around 5-20 frames per second. Then it will rise to around 10-30 fps. By setting the java program's priority to high through Task Manager, it can rise to 15-40. I am running Windows 7.

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

I too have a ati card and i used to get atleast 250fps but now i get around 40 fps, started after 1.3.2

i thought that might have been what it was, the reason win 8 drivers dont work properly is because there probly only beta drivers im sure it will be fixed soon. but im glad you got it fixed

Ok, so originally I had the NVIDIA WINDOWS 8 Drivers installed, so I thought I might just try out the Windows 7 drivers.. and.. what do you know.. problem solved

Solution: Install Windows 7 Drivers
Lesson: Current Win8 Drivers suck?

quick note: I have tried the game on my Linux Mint partition, which is NOT on a SSD and has WORSE video drivers than my Windows installation, and the game runs fine on that. So its not a problem with my hardware

hmm, well as i have an ATI i cant try and see if it happends to me, but it could possibly be the nvdia win 8 drivers im not sure tho, i would go back to win 7 and see if it does it but thats up to you if you want to do that or not

ok, forgot to ask what version of windows are you using 32bit or 64bit?

Just tested and it DOES happen in superflat worlds as well.
It when I reload worlds the problem remains, there might be a correlation between chunks loaded and drop.

I would like to mention, that anything that you would think to speed up performance DOES speed up performance but does so at an insignificant amount.
For Example:
Render Distance Far: 24 FPS
Render Distance Tiny: 35 FPS

Looking through heavy jungle (what is seen in original screenshot)
All settings maxed: 8FPS
All settings lowest: 20FPS

Keep in mind All settings maxed I use to be able to run this game at 60+FPS

EDIT: I am using the newest Nvidia Drivers - 306.97 and Intel HD drivers - 9.17.10.2287

as weird as it may seem Minecraft is more hardware demanding then BF3, ive played minecraft on win 8 and i got the ussaul fps of 300fps now ofc my PC is way overpowerd for minecraft as i have a intel core i7 3820 @ 4.6ghz 8gigs of ram and a ati 6950 gpu, but to the problem your having, did you install your video card drivers? as in your not using windows stock drivers?

Have you tried a superflat world? Does the FPS issues transfer with worlds? If you close a world and reload it does it remain or reset?
