That's odd... The launcher shouldn't have any effect unless it's downloading from a different location. Once you log in and updates are checked, the launcher closes and the actual mc.jar takes over. I use a cracked launcher for videoing myself (i have no friends) on a local offline mode server, and the textures look fine for me (or I wouldn't use it for videoing).

P.S. Afaik the cracked launcher only stops the password check, but doesn't mess with textures. I think the most likely problem here is that the cracked launcher is out of date, and is launching the main mc.jar in the old way. My custom launcher (made with hex edit on launcher 12) works perfectly fine.

Actually, yes.

Bugs like this may be present because the cracked launcher doesn't care about bugs, it cares about making the game playable without having to pay for it. So yes, of course paying for the game is less buggy than a pirated version.

@firehunterx, lolwut? You think it will resolve all bugs?

Notices that he is using the cracked launcher
:O Try actually buying the game? Maybe that would help!

In the quite similar issue MC-5335 reinstalling Java has helped.

but I'm using default so default is out of date?

Purple textures means you're using a texture pack that is out of date.

this is what the terrain looks like

I did that but the new 1.4 items are still purple when placed down

In that case I would suggest trying a clean install of Minecraft. You can remove your bin and resources folder and force and update from the launcher. If the issue still persists please let us know.

This is an issue with your texture pack. Try using the default texture pack.
