Intrigued by the prospect of terain.png still seeing some use in 13w02a I decided to test this by using a fully placeholder texture terrain.png in both a texture pack and modified jar file, to no avail. netherquartz.png existed in 13w02a, and can in fact be replaced with a desired texture file:

As this ticket is nearing a decade of age. there's likely zero point in retconning this as Invalid.

This is fixed as of 12w02b. The file names are

netherquartz.png

quartzblock_bottom.png

quartzblock_chiseled_top.png

quartzblock_chiseled.png

quartzblock_lines_top.png

quartzblock_lines.png

quartzblock_side.png

quartzblock_top.png

You can download the default files here: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/26179871/Minecraft%20Texture/Textures.zip

Look for netherquartz.png

Confirmed. It is being pulled from terrain.png. (Which still exists. Im guessing the transistion is not 100% finished.)
